Product Description
The traditions and recipes of Judaism are celebrated in this beautiful modern cookbook geared toward kids and their families. Eleven Jewish holidays are discussed and accompanied by recipes for the ancient and modern foods traditionally served. Kids can lead the charge on braiding their first challah or making their own kugel, while spending time learning about Jewish history and heritage.AUTHOR BIO: Jill Bloomfield is DK's resident kid's cooking expert. She is also the creator of a kids cooking consulting company, Picky Eaters. Originally a microbusiness that provided hands-on kids' cooking parties in clients' homes, Picky Eaters evolved as the "kids in the kitchen" trend caught fire (though, thankfully, her clients' kitchens did not). In addition to her work in the world of kids cooking, Jill also teaches English, public speaking and Jewish culture classes in Rockville, MD.

Rabbi Janet Ozur-Bass is a rabbi, mother, teacher, and self-proclaimed foodie. She lives with her three children and her husband, a cantor, in Rockville, Maryland. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy This Book - Then Eat, Enjoy.....
Our entire family loves to cook, and consequently we collect cookbooks. This is one of the best children's cookbooks we have ever come across.

Everything about this cookbook is first rate. The recipes are presented in sections that follow the Jewish holiday cycle, and each has simple, explicit instructions that guide your child through the food preparation. Every recipe we have tried has turned out just as deliciously as the luscious accompanying photographs promise. The spiral bound format makes it easy to use in the kitchen.

A nice feature of this cookbook is that it includes both Ashkenazic and Sephardic fare for each holiday. My son made the Mina (a Sephardic meat pie that resembles moussaka, but uses matzo for the layers) and Date Charoset for Passover and they were the hit of the Seder.

This is the perfect gift for any Jewish child. If they already like to cook it will inspire them and expand their repertoire (and yours, too). If they don't, just looking at this book will make them want to run down to the kitchen, tie on an apron, and fire up the oven!

Great job Ms. Bloomfield and DK!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great layout /accurate holiday info/ good recipes
If you are are looking for a Jewish recipe cookbook aimed at celebrating the Jewish holidays, this is perfect. The book has a beautiful layout, accurate information of the history of the holiday and Jewish definitions pertaining to the certain foods etc.The pictures and illustrations are great. The directions are simple enough for a young child to do with adult supervision or an older child to follow and prepare on their own.For a beginner cook or baker, this book would be perfect!

One man can make a difference! This edge of your seat biography about Varian Fry, a little known hero who rescued hunted people from under the nose of the Nazis in occupied France is a shining example of that truism.Fry, a young New York journalist, an average person, whose knowledge of espionage comes from movies, finds himself on a startling war-time mission.Because no one else will go, he agrees to fly to Marseilles and help famous, therefore recognizable, artists, writers and scientists escape the Germans who have closed the French borders to round up Jews. With no training, Fry sets up a front refugee organization, develops a staff he can trust, hires a cartoonist to forge papers, finds maps for crossing the Pyrenees on foot, and locates the intellectuals on his list. His two week assignment lasts over a year, ending because he is thrown out of the country. It is legal to help refugees survive, but absolutely illegal to help them leave France without proper documents. Not since The Firm has paperwork been so tense and exciting. Sent to save 200, Fry saves 2000 including famous individuals (ex. Marc Chagall), British soldiers and frightened families. He does this in spite of the opposition of the American State Department whose officials in Marseilles and Vichy - with only one exception, a man now on a US postage stamp - hinder Fry and take away his travel papers.Fry is a hero who cannot handle a normal routine on his return to America; and the remainder of his life is sad.Near his end the French Government honors him for his important, brave war deeds. Long after his death he becomes the first American included at Yad Vashem as a Righteous Gentile. At a time when most Americans ignore the European disaster, Fry investigates rumors, understands Nazi goals, witnesses their atrocities, writes about them in US newspapers, and when asked, works tirelessly behind enemy lines to save trapped Jews and others. The author's clear language makes the chronological story thrilling. She gives useful historical background to the individual saga and provides a lot of wonderful photos. The action in the book relies on following a paper trail and keeping many names straight.Reviewed by Kathe Pinchuk

Boy am I excited about this cookbook. Our family consists of members of the Jewish faith, as well as the Christian faith, so I have grandchildren that are as often as possible introduced to both sets of traditions. This book makes this so simple, easy and fun. This is definitely on the gift list for Hanukkah for the grandchildren and their families. On a personal note I love it - the graphics are striking and everyone I showed it to at work was very impressed. The recipes are explained so you can easily understand them and I love the overall friendliness of the way it is presented.I felt like I was going into the kitchen to cook with a friend.Keep more things like this coming.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just for fun
Our family received this book as a gift. Each one of my children enjoyed read the book like a novel.Who would think of a cookbook as kid-friendly reading material? They liked the pictures and stories interspersed within the recipes. Many of the tips presented are the kind a grandma might teach a younger child. Tips like how to get young children safely involved in the kitchen including how to teach using a knife safely. In a world where people have vastly forgotten the meaning of family, books like this fill the gap.The traditions presented are mostly Rabbinic. The items shown on the cover are included in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great recipes and ideas for the family
I bought this book a year ago and rediscovered it on the book shelf.I am so upset with myself for waiting so long to try these recipes with my kids!!!!

Today my daughter made her first challah using the recipe from this book and it turned out absolutely BEAUTIFUL!We took the advice of the author and used the third portion of dough to make some cinnamon bread for Shabbat morning breakfast but we all had to sample it when it came out of the oven.Oh yum! It is delicious. It's so good that there is a little less than half of it left for tomorrow.I had to hide it from the kids or it would all be gone!

We are also making the Friday Night Pot Roast recipe and the whole house smells so good.I use to buy a mixture in a jar for making my brisket (Bubbe's) but this tastes (I had to sample it) and smells just like the one in the jar.Well, actually it smells and tastes a little better because it's homemade. :)

One of the most enduring features of this book are the notes and memories presented before each recipe. You learn many interesting facts, history and the author's own family life. You feel like you are chatting with Joan Nathan over a cup of tea.

Each chapter has a history of the holiday and customs associated with each. Then come the wonderful recipes.

I love that the instructions are written clearly for adult AND child. Each recipe also notes where adult help is needed and what steps can be entrusted to a child.

This is a great book for making memories throughout the year.We are going to have a lot of fun eating our way through the holidays and creating memories.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent compilation of recipes for the holidays!
When Bon Appetit and other prestigous publications give this one rave reviews, that's a hint that you might have a "find"...and they are right. From Sabbath to Passover, there are recipes that are delicious, generally very easy to prepare and clearly explained. Although designed for children, I think thisone would be excellent for anyone who wants to become an excellent Jewish cook. It is like having a crash course in both the essentials and some special variations.

The book is extremely attractive and there are additions which make it special, such as suggested prayers, historical info about each holiday, great illustrations, etc.

Although the vast majority of the recipes are very simple, when one is a bit more complex, there are often step-by-step illustrations. An example would be Children's Cholent, where every single part of the process is pictured, right up to putting the dish in the oven.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that many of the recipes were unique or new to me.

ANOTHER PLUS: The author suggests which parts of the recipe might be appropriate and easy for a child to handle and which should be done with supervision.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource I use again and again.
I couldn't disagree more with the first review. With two small children, I rely heavily on this book as Jewish holidays come and go and have enjoyed many cooking experiences with my kids as a result.Furthermore, the recipes are consistently delicious! My kids and I have prepared Yemenite High Holiday Stew and Bread for Yom Kippur, Apple-Honey cupcakes, Hamantaschen, Aunt Lisl's Butter Cookies, and the ice-cream cupcake menorah featured on the cover, as well as a tender and delicious challah. There are many suggestions throughout for ways children can take part in the cooking, and often the menu suggestions accompanying each holiday have given me ideas of foods my children will actually eat.As a cook and an authority on Jewish cooking, Joan Nathan is no slouch; her contributions to the New York Times cooking section are significant and her adult-oriented cookbook "The Jewish Holiday Kitchen" is an exhaustive resource of Jewish dishes that is equally wonderful. In fact, I was reluctant to try this book because I doubted she could switch gears and write a children's cookbook that was really useable, but I contend she has done it!I can't imagine my cookbook library without this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars A remedial recipe book- very limited CRAFTY ideas
I would not even give this book one star.I was VERY disappointed with this book.I was expecting a CRAFTY kitchen book for childen based on the pictures on the front cover. This book primarily consists of traditional recipes for the holidays but gives instructions such as child mixes this.. adult stirs that.Example of receipes include: grape juice, hallah, chicken soup, matzah balls, pot roast, peeling a pamagranet, etc. There is nothing unique or special about these recipes. If you are buying it for your children- don't. and if you are buying it for the recipes- don't.There are many other better Jewish holiday cookbooks out there to choose from. ... Product Description

At last -- the Jewish holidays transformed into exquisite celebrations, graced with sublime chic and elegant ease for the contemporary Jewish reader. Combining the flair of Martha Stewart with the warmth and accessibility of a delightful neighbor, Rita Milos Brownstein breathes new life into traditional Jewish holiday celebrations.

Entertaining in high style creates marvelous holiday memories for your family, your friends, and yourself. For each of the ten major holidays, Brownstein offers suggestions for creative projects that will bring the whole family together and mouth-watering menus that make it effortless to prepare festivities of true material and spiritual splendor. With more than 85 full-color photographs and easy-to-follow step-by-step illustrations, this captivating book will motivate you to explore your Jewish heritage and use your imagination to make it your own.

Jewish Holiday Style is packed with dazzling and inspiring ideas. For Rosh Hashanah, host a honey-tasting party to celebrate the sweetness of a new year. If you love the ocean, observe Sukkot in a sukkah with a seaside motif -- even if you live in the cornfields of the Midwest. Make your own Chanukah menorahs -- try a simple cruse of oil that reflects the miracle of the oil in the Holy Temple, or an elaborate metalworked candelabra that is sure to become a family heirloom. For the Passover table, create personalized pillows for your guests, which.will allow them to recline like the royalty of old while you serve a lavish yet simple-to-prepare feast.

As part of this eye-opening tour through the Jewish calendar, Brownstein also highlights the historical origins and religious importance of each major holiday with a delightful essay that brings ancient rituals into the modern day. Think of the fast of Yom Kippur, for instance, as "a day spa for the soul...the too rare opportunity to get in touch with the things that really matter." Purim is "the definitive holiday of joy and merriment," commemorating a bright moment in the often somber history of the Jewish people. On Shabbat, "appreciate that you are joining the wave of Jews who are kindling their candles as the sun falls, working its way around the world."

At once a handbook of creative ideas and a primer on the spiritual significance of the Jewish holidays, Jewish Holiday Style is the first lifestyle book to address these all-important rituals and ceremonies, an elegantly designed volume that blends sensational crafts and delectable cooking with the richness of Judaism's 3,300-year-old tradition. Bursting with fresh ideas and exciting new looks, here, finally, is the book you've been waiting for. Let the holiday celebrations begin!Amazon.com Review
"In Judaism, since the spiritual and the physical are intimately connected, each has the power to enhance and infuse vitality into the other, creating a divine partnership. This concept of beauty and spirituality is most attainable during the Jewish holidays." So writes Rita Milos Brownstein, in the introduction to Jewish Holiday Style, a Martha Stewart-esque treatment of the Jewish holy days. The book is a colorful step-by-step guide to making the highlights of the Jewish calendar as chic and elegant as they can be. Although Brownstein sometimes gets carried away with her rhetoric (Yom Kippur becomes "a day spa for the soul"), her ideas and instructions (such as making your own Chanukah menorah, or celebrating Rosh Hashanah by tasting various honeys) will add some zest to the oldest Jewish traditions. And even Brownstein's excesses have at least this to redeem them: they always encourage the biblical virtue of hospitality. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Delicious recipes...loaded with color photos..great cookbook!
I turn to this cookbook often, not just for the holidays. The recipes are delicious and this is one of those highly visual books loaded with color photos. The matzo ball soup makes the best chicken soup I've ever had. I make it with variations (barley, wild rice) every month. I love this book and am delighted to have found Rita Brownstein. I hope she writes more books. I'll be waiting hopefully.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly inspiring, a little cheesy.
I've turned to this book again and again for Jewish holiday celebrations, and it often has lovely ideas.Just as often, some of them strike me as rather improbable and silly. On the plus side, the sukkahs she describes making are lovely interpretations of the idea, but on the minus side, trying to follow her directions to actually construct one will make you crazy.BELIEVE ME.I've used some of her ideas for Rosh Hashanah cards and been pleased with the results, but the Purim costumes and mishloach manot baskets mostly seem silly. And make your own journal for Yom Kippur?I don't know, I'm always way too busy to mess with something like that. Many of her recipes are surprisingly delicious, especially her orange-chocolate hamantaschen and the raspberry linzer-torte hamantaschen...YUM!So while it's not always consistent, I am glad to have it in my library nonetheless.

5-0 out of 5 stars adds enjoyment to the holidays

5-0 out of 5 stars Jewish Holiday Style...
I bought this book for myself, and five more copies for my friends and family. This passover I am planning on making three matzah-cover vases formy pesach table, and I'm also going to have a glass-square sedar plate. These stylish things are chic and inexpensive, plus they look great withany room or setting. The book itself has more knowledge than any otherstyle book: usually books are either one or the other. Is Ms. Brownsteinplanning on writing any books in the future?

2-0 out of 5 stars Could have been....
This cook book could have been good--I don't know because so many pages had been cut out of the used version I purchased. It was a real disappointment to buy something that was described as "like new" and then learn (too late) that so many recipes had been removed.I won't buy this way again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Original and Warm, but Dated
I must give this book high marks for originality and organization, and for thoroughness without repetition. In addition, the book transmits a genuine warmth of Jewish feeling. Harriet Roth does not care to be hip, ironic or vegan. She is just trying to get good-tasting Jewish food on the table with a minimum of cholesterol and sodium. I would like to visit Harriet Roth's kitchen and chat with her while she cooks.

Unfortunately, some of the recipes recall a more innocent time of free use of sugar and processed foods. In addition, the heavy use of nonfat dairy may put off some people (although, in fairness, it is hard to make traditional dairy food without dairy). Most of the recipes are for groups of 6 or more, and cannot be scaled down.

I like this book, but I do not use it much.

4-0 out of 5 stars very good reference for jewish company cooking
I needed a reference for cooking for some Jewish friends....they loved it.I am not Jewish myself but, have prepared some of the recipes for my family and they were very good.I can't imagine I am the best person to ask, but anyway, I enjoyed this cookbook and it's recipes were well-recieved by all. ... Product Description
Here is a book for every Jewish cook-for the one who keeps a kosher household all year 'round and the one who likes to cook a traditional Jewish meal only at the holidays, for the cook who has been running a home for twenty-five years and the one who's about to prepare a first Seder.

The Jewish Holiday Cookbook is filled with 250 strikingly original recipes, many of them annotated with fascinating stories about the customs and cultures from which they derive. Chicken soup and gefilte fish, brisket and potato pancakes are here -- what Jewish cookbook would be complete without them? -- but The Jewish Holiday Cookbook goes far beyond the expected, presenting exciting, authentic recipes from the many varied traditions of Jewish cuisine all over the world. Whether they're classic dishes or brand-new discoveries, all the recipes have been thoroughly tested and adapted for the modern kitchen.

Truly international in scope, the recipes -- both Ashkenazic and Sephardic -- are drawn from such unexpected locales as Turkey, Greece, Cuba, Iraq, and Algeria as well as Eastern and Western Europe. The book's distinctive features include a glossary of ingredients and, for easy reference, an index of recipes by category of dish -- Appetizers, Drinks, Salads and Vegetables, Grains and Pasta, Soups, Fish, Meat, Poultry, Dairy, Breads and Muffins, Fruits and Puddings, Cakes, Cookies, Pastries, and Candies. All recipes are kosher and are designated as meat, dairy, or pareve, and dishes suitable for Pesach are marked.

Most important, the book is arranged according to the way people will use it, by holiday: Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret and Sim- ... Read more

I have to tell you that the recipes in this book are a Godsend. My favorites are the matzoh/spinach/tomato pie and the zippy cranberry potroast. They are real crowd pleasers!

5-0 out of 5 stars favorite cookbook
This cookbook is one of my favorite cookbooks. It provides great recipes within the context of each jewish holiday.I find myself reading it before each holiday and it learning new things about the holiday itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best sourcesfor Jewish holiday cooking!
Ms. Greene combines inventiveness with tradition.I used this book as one of my resources for compiling a menu for a Passover Seder twelve years ago.My friend Barbara Podell was taking a closer look at her Jewish heritage (she had been raised Episcopalian, but her paternal grandparents were Russian Jews) and we became "co-caterers" for what has become THE spiritual and social event of the year for our family of friends.

Since I am not Jewish, but I wanted to be as authentic and Kosher as possible, I was happy that Gloria included historical background and symbology for the Seder plate and for traditions behind both Ashkenasic and Sephardic foods, such as the "Long Roasted Eggs," which our friends look forward to each year as a very special part of our Seder (which we call "dinner with a script").Before reading her book, I didn't know about Sephardic Jews and the differences in the ingredients they use.

Gloria writes with a friendly tone and a light touch, which I found encouraging since I was neophyte to Jewish cooking styles.

If you have to pick only one book, this is the ONE! ... Read more

Here's the must-have cookbook for the modern home cook who has little time but lots of enthusiasm for keeping up with Jewish traditions.

    Amazon.com Review
There's more than just recipes here: in addition to great menus for every Jewish holiday, Sorosky includes a short history of the occasion, the appropriate blessings, decorations and centerpieces, and essential religious items and foods--in short, everything you need to know and have to make your holiday meal a success. What's more, she provides a game plan for organizing your time in the kitchen andgetting everything on the table at the right time and temperature. As an added bonus, Sorosky includes "Extra Points": special projects for children, invitation ideas, or special decorations to lift your celebration above the ordinary.

In her foreword, Marlene Sorosky admits that her upbringing in a tyranically Orthodox household spoiled Jewish holidays for her until she was well into adulthood. While writing this book, however, she discovered the joyous spirit of both the holidays and Judaism--apparent in every page of Fast and Festive Meals for the Jewish Holidays. ... Read more

I received two email conformations that this book had been shipped. Now I receive an email stating that the book was damaged and not shipped.
Why list an item that is damaged in the first place: Why confirm an item is shipped when it wasn't. The seller had the same book but at a slightly higher price. I would have paid the difference had I been notified. Now they are offering a discount on my next purchase, within 60 days. You folks need to have more respect for your customers. You won't see me again!

5-0 out of 5 stars all around good holiday book
This book is personal, warm and gets you focused well on all the holidays. It helps get into the holiday spirit. The recipes are wonderful. I am glad someone gave this to me as a gift, it's really a plus to my cookbook collection. I also like the fact that it is more than a cookbook; also an explanation of the meaning of the holidays and projects for kids. Unlike some of the reviewers, I was happy to find Sorosky's personal issues with her upbringing and how she came to terms with them.

5-0 out of 5 stars delicious, reliable recipes, SUCH a useful book
A friend gave me a copy of this book, and it's one of the best gifts I've ever gotten. It's divided by holiday, and the introduction to each holiday also includes some basic advice on organizing the meal, cooking ahead to make things easier that day, prayers to remember, other observances to keep in mind. Then there are the recipes, which are uniformly terrific; unlike some of Joan Nathan's books, they're also well-tested. There's not a single recipe in this book that will fail you. I have cooked dishes from this book for the first time and served them for company, and no one was the wiser. By the way, most of these recipes are just as great for year-round use as for the holidays. But her hamantaschen are foolproof, and her Pesadic section is really good. Thank you, Marlene Sorosky, for a wonderful book!

Recently I have become interested in Jewish culture and tradition, wanting to understand more facets including food. But the Jewish recipes I had were too complicated and time consuming, not to mention extremely high calorie. Then I found this cookbook. The recipes range from very simple to fairly complex, but the equipment required can be found in my kitchen, the steps are clear, and the tastes have been updated for a modern palate.Jewish customs central to the holidays are also explained clearly, with simple, effective ideas for decorations included. This is a great book.

"Don't do anything too weird," a cook advised theauthors as they began this book. "Nobody wants to be eatingexperiments, especially on the High Holy Days." In deference tothese wise words, Louise Fiszer and Jeannette Ferrary createdJewish Holiday Feasts, a collection of 39 recipes organized byholiday, all in the finest taste. A combination of the traditionalwith the spice of the new, these recipes are in good health as well asgood faith. Each chapter opens with a history of and/or a brief anecdoteabout the holidays. From Classic Potato Latkes and Sweet Potato Kugelto Honey and Cumin-Glazed Cornish Hens and Stuffed Pitas, the recipesare as sure to please grandparents in rocking chairs as grandchildrensurfing the Web.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delicious and delightful
I'm no expert on Jewish cooking, so I can't speak to the authenticity of the recipes in this cookbook. I can, however, judge it the same way I would any other cookbook: on the food it produces, the accuracy of its directions, and the quality of its design and layout.

"Jewish Holiday Feasts" is organized by occasion, starting in the Autumn with Rosh Hashanah, and includes 3-6 recipes for each feast. Whether you're looking for Pita Stuffed with Eggplant Salad and Feta Cheese (it's rare that I find an eggplant recipe that I enjoy this much), Latkes (potato, zucchini, fresh salmon, cauliflower and carrot, or sweet cottage cheese), Sweet-Potato Kugel, Walnut and Dried Cherry Rugelach, or a Cold Beet and Cucumber Soup, you'll find a wonderful recipe for it here. We particularly enjoyed the Asparagus and Herbed Cheese Strudel.

Each section includes a few words about the holiday itself and the foods served, as well as the purpose of those foods or what they represent. This is an enjoyable way to sample Jewish foods for those unfamiliar with them. The pages are small and well laid-out; it's easy to keep track of where you are in a recipe and what you're looking at. The directions are brief and simple, and we found no mistakes in any of the recipes we made.

I highly recommend this cookbook, particularly to anyone who enjoys sampling new foods and isn't overly familiar with Jewish holiday fare.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice
An adorable cookbook filled with sweet and savory dishes to celebrate all Jewish Holiday Feasts: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Succoth, Hanukkah, Purim, Pesach, Shavuoth, as well as Foods for the Sabbats.

Both Louise Feszer and Jeannette Ferrary are food writers and the co-authors of six books. On of their creations, Sweet Onions and Sour Cherries, was nominated for the Julia Child Cookbook Award by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. Both reside in the San Francisco Bay Area.

With a few colorful illustrations, Feszer and Ferrary take us on a Jewish culinary adventure with tasty traditional recipes like Golden Challah Bread, Walnut and Dried Cherry Rugelach, and Classic Potato Latkes, as well as some lesser-known dishes, like Spiced Pear and Almond Cake, Passover Biscotti and Coucous With Saffron and Vegetables. These recipes take us on a culinary journey in celebration of Jewish cuisine.

A wonderful book to celebrate the Jewish holidays with your family and friends!

Healthier recipes both modern and old fashioned. It's about time! The speedy cholent includes wheatberries which give this version a great texture and the spices are really interesting. I love this dish. The tandoori chicken is great! Also nice spices and really tender chicken. Best of all are the desserts which are light and include ingredients that aren't hard to find. The Strawberry Shortcake in seconds cuts countless fat and calories because it has nonfat vanilla yogurt and low fat sour cream instead of heavy whipping cream. It's an awesome recipe.

We've had this cookbook for about 20 years. Great chicken soup recipe! and the sufganiyot are so cute.We used to put a bowl of the chocolate glaze in the middle of the table and all the kids would dip their "donuts" in. What a mess! but great fun on chanukah! (make sure they're wearing aprons!) All the recipes are easy and fun and delicious. It's not fancy, but the illustrations are charming and there's some info about each holiday in there, so it's a good gift for someone who could benefit from a little knowledge about Jewish holidays. Product Description
A few years ago I found myself in a situation not too different from your own. I had married into a Jewish family and desperately wanted to be able to impress my new family. The problem was that I didn’t have a clue how to get started in the kitchen. Although I had given it a try on numerous occasions, it was always with dismal results.

I didn’t understand what I was doing wrong.I had spent a ton of money on the best ingredients that money could buy but it didn’t seem to make a difference.I was determined to prove to myself that I had what it took to make these delicious dishes.

The only problem was that I had no clue where to start.

None of the books I had read on cooking had been able to solve my problem. Some might have passed on a helpful hint or two, but did not solve my problems. One night I commented to a friend that what I really needed was a comprehensive guide on everything to do with how to create Jewish dishes!

    That’s when it hit me!

If I couldn’t find a comprehensive guide on Jewish Cookery, then why not create my own? I was tired of flipping back and forth through tons of books for the few bits of information that could help me; but I reasoned that if I put all those little tidbits of info together then I might actually be able to begin understanding the secrets to creating successful Jewish Cookery.

The next morning I furiously began to read through all of the cooking books that I had purchased over the past three years and take down the pertinent notes. I didn’t stop there either. I swallowed my pride and enlisted the help of my neighbors and friends to discover what they were doing that resulted in such successful items.

It took awhile to sort through all of the information I had gathered and compile the notes I received from the experts I consulted, but when I was finished I sat back and was completely stunned.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Cookbook Ever!
I totally wasted over $4 on this completely useless cookbook.First, the electronic formatting is a mess.No table of contents, no index, no way of looking for specific recipes except to keep scrolling. There there is the problem of the recipes themselves. This book seems to have been written by someone whose first language in not English.Lots of grammatical errors that get in the way of understanding what the recipe wants you to do.Second, the recipes have no ingredient lists or specific quantities for ingredients, rendering them pretty useless. And there are no cooking times listed, either. Finally, I don't know whose Jewish Grandmother the author is trying to cook like, but I do not recognize many of the recipes included as being Jewish at all.And since the introduction is written in such poor English, it is very difficult to figure out what the philosophy of this cookbook is or the approach the author is taking. All in all, it reads like someone's notes were simply compiled and transmitted electronically with no editing or recipe testing.I bought this for $4.77 because I figured that for this low price I'd take a chance. But the book is not even worth that small amount of money. It is a waste. ...
