USI: School Of Liberal Arts-Teacher Certification through the following teacher certification policy unconditionally to the teachereducation program 8600 University Boulevard Evansville, indiana 47712-3596 http://www.usi.edu/libarts/teach.htm
Extractions: Teacher Certification Policy Many students majoring in disciplines in the School of Liberal Arts prepare themselves to teach in secondary schools (high schools, junior high schools, or middle schools). Such students major in specific subjects within the Liberal Arts, and although they may take some education courses in their freshman and sophomore years, are only admitted to the secondary education program (under direction of the Bower-Suhrheinrich School of Education and Human Services) following the completion of their 55th credit hour. Advisors in the School of Liberal Arts have a sincere interest in helping shape a schedule for a student who is interested in secondary teaching. The School of Liberal Arts weighs the qualifications of a student through the following teacher certification policy: A student interested in teaching at the secondary level, either as major or minor, should realize that admission to the teacher education program is not automatic. A student normally applies for admission to the teacher education program in the semester in which he/she enrolls for the 55th semester-hour of credit and follows the procedures outlined. These procedures include formal interviews with both the major and minor departments. A student should ask his or her advisor to arrange the interview. When a student requests the interview, the advisor will establish a committee consisting of two to three faculty members who know the student from class. This committee will meet as soon as possible to interview the student, review his or her record, and decide on its recommendation.
Extractions: International Employment for Teachers Alternative Certification Many states have developed or are initiating programs that provide alternative routes to teacher certification, particularly for mid-career professionals. The goal of such programs is to draw a diversity of individuals with in-depth subject matter backgrounds into teaching careers. Requirements for an alternative teaching license vary by state. For an overseas position, it does not matter what state your license is from. Generally, applicants must hold a bachelors degree in the subject to be taught, achieve a passing score on state-required examinations, complete an intensive teacher preparation program, and possibly fulfill a supervised teaching internship. Specific information on which school systems are offering internships can be requested from the schools. After satisfactory completion of these requirements, the applicant will be issued a teaching credential.
