Extractions: Scientists and educators have worked together to complete a current five state spatial data base which provides a rich context for investigations using the Internet, Geographical Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Calculator Based Laboratories (CBL) and sensing instrumentation. Prairie to Mountain Explorer contains selected base-line data sets at regional and county scales (ranging from 1:2,000,000 to 1:100,000) for ID, MT, WY, ND and SD and a collection of lesson plans which have been developed and tested in pilot teacher classrooms. Project Work Location GIS programming and the data acquisition and manipulation was performed at both U. Wyoming and at SDSU. Lesson plans have been developed by K-12 teachers and university faculty in all five states. Lesson plan editing and overall project direction is performed at U. Wyoming. Inputs Through their Schools and Libraries Program, the ESRI Corporation provided instruction in Arc View and served as a consultant for the development of lesson plans to be included in the Prairie to Mountain Explorer. EROS Data Center personnel provided guidance in the selection of general baseline layers. UMAC personnel at MSU and UND provided specific recommendations and generated selected datasets. Data for the layers in the CD-ROM sets come from multiple sources as summarized in the Tables below.
