That's not entirely correct. You can reply, but it will only let the reply come to me. You will get a message telling you that you are not permitted to send to the group (or something like that). This will prevent everyone from getting the message when someone replies. Please let me know if you have any problems. After today, Carmelina Hollingsworth will be on maternity leave for the remainder of the school year. Laura McDonald will be handling your video requests. Extractions: THE PLOT: Davey Stone (Sandler) hates the holidays. The 33-year-old party animal celebrates Yuletide by wreaking havoc on his town. But this year, he goes too far and ends up in trouble with the law. Luckily, the judge is willing to keep with the holiday spirit and give the troublemaker one last chance to redeem himself. To avoid jail time, Davey must perform community service during the holidays. He thinks he's gotten off easy until he meets Whitey (Sandler) and his fraternal twin sister Eleanore (Sandler). Whitey is an elderly, elf-like basketball referee who teams up with Davey to help the local youth basketball league. With a heart of gold, Whitey is determined to teach Davey about the true meaning of the holidays. THE SKINNY: The first offering from Adam Sandler's Meatball Animation studio is a Hanukkah musical with an all-star cast of Saturday Night Live alumni. Rob Schneider, Jon Lovitz, and Kevin Nealon lend their vocal talents alongside Sandler, who voices the three lead characters. The traditionally animated feature expands on the lovably eccentric character Whitey, who appears Sandler's comedy album "Stan and Judy's Kid." Sandler's four comedy albums including the Grammy-nominated "They're All Gonna Laugh At You" (1993) have sold more than five million copies combined.

Hanukkah In Tunisia : The Girls' Festival a French woman of Tunisian ancestry, explains the many traditional hanukkah pastriesof teach your children about Esther and Judith with these books, available http://www.kolot.com/FS1999/hanukkah-tunisia.shtml
Extractions: A Tunisian Hanukkah Tradition In the North African country of Tunisia, Jews celebrate the sixth night of Hanukkah as the Girls' Festival in memory of the Jewish heroines Esther and Judith. In French the festival is called La Fete des Filles Esther, as you will recall, saved the Jews of Persia from destruction around 470 B.C. as told in the Scroll of Esther and as celebrated on Purim, the day on which those Jews were to have been killed. Judith saved Jerusalem from capture by the Babylonians at around 600 B.C. by walking into the enemy camp, tricking the Babylonian general, Holofernes, and cutting off his head with a sword. Judith's story is found in the Apocrypha. Both women performed their heroic deeds during the month of Tevet, so the festival was established on the first night of that month, which coincides with the sixth night of Hannukah. Because of the holiday's timing, it is also called the Daughters' Rosh Hodesh or, in French, Roch Hodeceh el Bnat On the night of the Girls' Festival, Tunisian girls receive gifts of special pastries. Isabelle, a French woman of Tunisian ancestry, explains the many traditional Hanukkah pastries of Tunisia, "

It's a little overwhelming to wade through all of the available books. It is also exciting to see all of the choices. Late in 2000, I became immersed in holiday reading. The three books below are ones I particularly recommended then and continue to like very much. B is for Bethlehem is a delightful picture book, originally written by Isabel Wilner for a second grade school production. The author uses rhyming couplets to tell the story of Jesus' birth. Even very young children will enjoy and easily remember (and repeat) the verses. This charming story is wonderfully illustrated with mixed-media collages by artist

Extractions: Overview On the Hebrew calendar, this Jewish festival is from Kislev 25th through Tebet 3rd, which falls in December or January. Chanukah marks the reconsecration of the temple of Jerusalem after its recapture from the Syrian Greeks in 165 BC. The holiday lasts for eight days. On each day a new candle is lit on an eight-branched candelabra called a menorah. This commemorates the miracle recorded in the Talmud when a one-day supply of oil burned for eight days. Observance begins at sunset on the date indicated and lasts eight days. Also spelled Hanukkah.

Both books: $45 Devorah Publishing Co., N.Y. and the Shalom Hartman Institute, Jerusalem, Israel. Reviewed by Rabbi Jack Riemer A few years ago Noam Zion published 'A Different Night', which was a wonderful Passover Haggadah, chock full of interesting ideas with which to make the Seder more meaningful. Now, together with Barbara Spector, he has edited two more books whose goal is to make the holiday of Hanukkah more understandable and more enjoyable. The task this time is probably more difficult, because Passover has a clear message and a basic text. Hanukkah has many messages, some of them contradictory, and it does not have anything like the Haggadah that everyone knows and that everyone recites. And yet the editors of this book have done just as creative and just as impressive a job with Hannukah as one of them did with Pesach. The first thing you need to know in approaching this book is that down through the centuries Hanukkah has had many meanings. Whatever it meant originally is something that scholars can and do argue about. It was probably not so much a war against the external enemy as it was a civil war between the Jews. And if that is what it originally was, that is a scary thing to think about in this age of polarization and divisiveness in which we now live.

Extractions: Happy Hanukkah! What's it All About? The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah recalls a miracle that happened more than two thousand years ago in Jerusalem. After a three-year battle for religious freedom, a band of rebel Jews defeated the Syrian king who had attempted to force the Jewish people to worship Greek gods. The defeat enabled the Jews to reclaim their Temple and rededicate it to their one God. But they had only a small amount of purified oil to light the Menorah, a special lamp which was supposed to burn day and night in the Temple as a symbol of holiness. Miraculously, that small amount of oil lasted not one, but eight days! Thus, Hanukkah became an eight day celebration recalling this miracle and the victory for religious freedom. While your little ones are too young to grasp the full meaning of this holiday and its historical perspective, you may be able to paraphrase part of the story to suit their understanding and interest level. They will be able to relate to the delightful traditions associated with Hanukkah. Read Hanukkah!

Extractions: Every year at Pesah, we, the descendants of former slaves, animatedly enact the ancient drama of redemption, making the Passover seder the longest running drama in human history. If one medieval chronology (Seder HaDorot) is correct, the Passover Seder has seen 3476 consecutive performances. And as we rehearse these well known events with meticulous attention, we relearn some important truths about the God Who directed this implausible story with a most reluctant cast of characters. We also relearn at least one important truth about ourselves. We learn that God alone gives us the courage and the strength to overcome adversity and make something good and beautiful with our lives. He is the God Who humbles the haughty Pharaoh and teaches the tyrant a basic lesson. Judgment in history, writes the noted academic Herbert Butterfield in The Origins of History, falls heaviest on those who come to think themselves gods, who fly in the face of Providence, who put their trust in man-made systems, worship the work of their own hands and say the strength of their own right arm gave them victory. Indeed, the Torah could not have described this human weakness any better: When you have eaten your fill and built fine houses to live in, and your herds and your flocks have multiplied, and your silver and your gold have increased, and everything you own has prospered, beware lest your heart grow haughty and you forget the Lord your God Who freed you from the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage and you say to yourselves, My own power and the might of my own hand have won this wealth for me(Deuteronomy 8:12-17).
