Comments totally know what you felt. well, sorta, i was in beavers/cubs/scouts and i quite once i was 12 or 13 cuz it was just too much of a popularity contest. little did i know that high school was about to be much the same. i was also pegged around that time as 'gay' so i just retreated to my bedroom and stayed away from the 'bullies'. little did i know how right they were. hindsight. jay on March 18, 2002 12:25 PM It was such a popularity contest. I was lucky enough to be made a "seconder" of my clique-y thing (Lily of the Valley!) in my first year, and a "sixer" of the clique-y thing in my second, thus ensuring that I was one of the cool geeks. That's shitty about the bullies at school, but you're probably better off for having just done your own thing. On the bright side, can you imagine how much snarking we would have gotten had we stayed with Guides/Scouts throughout highschool *chuckle*

Extractions: Robert Baden-Powell returned to England a national hero, after defending the town of Mafeking (Mafikeng as it is now spelled) for seven months from the besieging Boer troops, the first real British triumph in the Boer War. When he returned to England, he discovered that many boys and young me were avidly reading his book Aids to Scouting. This book was intended as a military training manual, teaching soldiers techniques such as observation, tracking, initiative... B-P. met with various influential people in youth movements across the country, and was persuaded to write a version of Aids to Scouting aimed at teenage boys, Scouting for Boys was published in 1908 (after a camp on Brownsea Island, Poole Harbour, Dorset, where B-P. tried out his ideas on four patrols of boys from London and Bournemouth). Scouting for Boys was initially printed in six fortnightly parts, and sold very quickly. Baden-Powell had originally intended the scheme outlined in Scouting for Boys to supplement the programmes of youth organisations that were in existence at the time, like the Boys Brigade and the Boy's Clubs. But boys not in other youth movements bought the book, and set themselves up as Patrols of Scouts, and quickly found themselves leaders to train them. It was soon realised that some form of organisation was required to support these Scouts.

Extractions: Baden-Powell On-Line (An article for the February 1997 Deep Cove Crier) Just a few weeks ago at the local Parkgate Shopping Centre, all of our community was reminded once again that Scouting is alive and well in our local community. Dozens of cars were lined up by the CIBC Bank, depositing not money, but rather Christmas trees in the annual 11th Seymour Tree Chip-Up. I offer my congratulations to the Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Venturers, Scouters, and parents for a job well done in helping to protect our environment. From its very inception, Scouting has always been looking for creative ways to do good deeds, and serve its local community. I remember as a young boy that I carried a Scouting good-deed coin in my right pocket. The aim was to do a good deed each day so that I could move my Scouting coin over to my left pocket. Lord and Lady Robert and Olave Baden Powell were a remarkably gifted couple to have started such long-lasting and widespread groups as the Scouting and Guiding groups. Guiding in our area involves over 500 girls, including Pathfinders, Guides, Brownies, and Sparks. Just before Christmas, I was invited to speak to a local Brownie group on the meaning of Christmas. To prepare for that session, I used the Internet Search Engines to look for WEB pages on Guiding and Scouting. To my surprise, I discovered that there are over 700 Scouting/Guiding WEB pages around the world, reaching out to the 17 million+ Scouts and 8 million+ Guides. Lord and Lady Baden Powell were trailblazers in everything they did. Similarly, Guides and Scouts are trailblazers in this new technological revolution, that is radically reshaping our modern world.
Estevan: The Power Centre nearly as can be ascertained the girl guides were first A company of guides was organizedin 1957 with three different groups of cubs and scouts sponsored by http://cap.estevan.sk.ca/community/thePowerCentre/GuidesAndScouts.html
Extractions: GIRL GUIDES As nearly as can be ascertained the Girl Guides were first organized in Estevan in the early 1930s when two companies were sponsored. The first was an open company connected with St. Giles Anglican church with Miss Monica Jessup as captain; the second with St. John the Baptist church with Mrs. Mike Roach as captain. These groups were most successful and it is of note that Mrs. Ted Lindgren began her training at that time and is still active in the work with the rank of Lieutenant. After a period of inactivity 1956 saw a revival in the movement when a Brownie pack was sponsored by the Salvation Army with Mrs. Peck as captain. A company of Guides was organized in 1957 with Mrs. Henry Borquin in charge. At present there is the No. 1 company with Mrs. June O'Laney as captain; No. 2 company sponsored by the Catholic Women's league with Mrs. Sali as captain; No. 3 under Trinity Lutheran Ladies' Aid with Mrs. V. Jensen, captain. In total there are eight Brownie packs and three Guide companies. General oversight is provided by the local association of parents and other interested persons. Mrs. Ken Lang is now president of this group.

Church Magazine Rainbows is for girls aged 5 to 7 years and is for the lowest age group of girls who wish to join the Guide movement. As part of the Guide movement it aims to build character and motivate youngsters to try activities they might not otherwise have a chance to attempt. The Rainbow groups based at St Patrick's are the 4th and 7th South Wallington Rainbows. Brownie Guides are girls aged 7 to 10 years and are members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The Guide movement aims to build character and motivate youngsters to try activities they might not otherwise have attempted, and to have fun as a group. The 4th and 7th South Wallington Brownies are the two groups based at St Patrick's. Guides is for girls aged 11 to 16 years and is the final level for girls who have already been through Rainbows and Brownies. The Guide movement aims to build character and motivate youngsters to try activities they might not otherwise have a chance to attempt. The group based at St Patrick's is the 4th South Wallington Guides. For more information and details of how your child can join, contact our church office. The Group started life as a mere idea in the heads of Nick Devine (now Group Scout Leader) and the then Minister of St. Patrick's Brian Brown (himself a former Cub Scout Leader and GSL) about 1995. In years gone by there was a Scout Group at St. Pat's but the Group closed in the early 1990s leaving St Pat's bereft of Scouting. It was decided to form a Group sponsored by St. Pat's but open to all regardless of membership of the Church or not. Thus we opened our first section - Beavers in May 1996 followed in November by Cubs. Scouts followed about a year later when the older Cubs were ready to move sections. We are very fortunate to have a fairly stable Leadership team of very able and dedicated Scouters who willingly give their time each week to deliver varied and interesting programmes to the Scouts in their care. This is reflected in the fact that we have grown from nothing to a Group of about 70 Beavers/Cubs/Scouts since opening in 1996.
TDSB User Fees 3 age of downloading and tax cuts, Toronto's girl guides and Boy scouts suddenly must inthis city's history, nearly 10,000 cubs, scouts, guides and Brownies http://www.gtrsi.com/user2.html
Extractions: In an age of downloading and tax cuts, Toronto's Girl Guides and Boy Scouts suddenly must ``be prepared'' to pay for the school rooms they meet in each week. For the first time in this city's history, nearly 10,000 Cubs, Scouts, Guides and Brownies will have to worry about rent as well as reef knots this fall, because schools say they no longer can afford to provide meeting space for free. It's a financial pressure some warn could spell the end of some Scout groups and, at the very least, force Guides to sell more than 40 per cent more cookies. The good news for Guides and Scouts is that they are being asked to pay only half what the Toronto District School Board wants to charge the City of Toronto for its community youth groups next year - because the city has the power to raise taxes to pay its bills, while Scouts and Guides do not. In an emotional meeting this week, the school board voted to charge Scouts and Guides user fees - but at a rate of only about $5.70 an hour, rather than the $11.40 it wants to charge the city.
