5-0 out of 5 stars Super for hands-on projects
This is a kid-friendly non-fiction book with simple projects students in grades 4-6 can do independently. The note to teachers in the back gives excellent advice on how to adapt the projects to use various types of materials.

I think this book would work well in a non-fiction reading center with supplies on hand for students to make a project independently. These projects can also be used with the whole class, rather inexpensively (aren't all teachers looking for inexpensive???)

Ancient civilization is new curriculum for me, and I found these projects grabbing my attention.Even though there are only 4 projects in this small book, they include food, paper-making, paper maiche, measurement, and drawing.I would love to have several copies of this book, so I could let students take it home to create a project as HomeFun! ... Product Description
'THE BIBLE BETRAYED'By James Rappai'The Bible Betrayed' presents an astonishing new hypothesis-discovery that conclusively proves the following: 1.The Bible stories are true.2.Ancient Egypt was in the Turkey-Syria region. 3.Ancient Israel was in Syria. 4.It pinpoints the ruins of the real Jerusalem in the mountains of Syria. 5.Finally, it suggests that scholars may be involved in an elaborate cover-up exercise. The Bible Betrayed proves that the Bible stories are true. The book goes on to reveal a mind-numbing archaeological reconstruction error in the volatile Middle Eastern arena. Modern-day scholars have misidentified and misplaced ancient Egypt on the reconstructed map of the Levant (core biblical arena). Since Egypt was the sheet anchor for this reconstruction, this fundamental flaw spawned multiple errors in the map, including the Bible anomaly of missing archaeological evidence. The Bible anomaly is probably being used as a smokescreen to cover up this grave error. The author, James Rappai's fascinating conclusions are based on his newly reconstructed map of the core biblical arena that emerged from a 10-year long study. It all began with the author's suspicion that 'Ethiopia of the secular Greek scholars' and 'Canaan of the Bible' were one and not two different kingdoms as modern-day scholars currently assume. This proved true. A search for the root cause of this inadvertent duplication led to the Egypt error. The new map is based on geographical pointers that are rigorously corroborated by both the Bible as well as secular ancient world historians such as Strabo and Herodotus. It firmly places Egypt as well as Canaan (of which ancient Israel was a part) in the Middle Eastern arena. When 'test run' to find Jerusalem, the new map delivers an astonishing find! It triangulates a fort-temple ruin situated on a high mountain ridge, hidden deep in the mountains of modern-day Syria. From the description given of Jerusalem by the Jewish historian Josephus, this fort-temple ruin is a hand-in-glove fit and instantly recognizable as the Fort Antonia cum Temple complex of the Jerusalem acropolis upon the Moriah Ridge that was rebuilt by King Herod. It is surprisingly intact... almost exactly as Titus left it in 70 AD! 'The Bible Betrayed' is soon to be followed by three new books that will highlight various other mysteries that are revealed and resolved by this hypothesis-discovery. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars LOL!
LOL! What a silly book! Wow, ....wow. This book is so un historical it isn't even funny. I want my money back!

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!
I GIVE THIS GUY THE 4As!! The scope of this book is immense. The author, James Rappai has managed to do what a hundred nay a thousand scholars before him tried and failed to accomplish!

Okay, histrionics aside, what Mr. Rappai has done is single-handedly resolve the Bible anomaly of missing archaeological evidence. In the process, he blithely dismantles the 'sacred' Egypt reconstruction and ships it lock-stock and barrel to the Near Eastern arena.

Is one allowed to do this? Do I find it believable? Frankly, I am a little bewildered, but if you ask me, does it make sense, I have to say... sure. Why the hell not.

The Egypt reconstruction is not all robust as it seems. True, there are the ruins, but the story that goes with it, is not all 'kosher.' The fit is a sham. There is a lot that has been quietly swept under the carpet. It is entirely possible that we have clothed one set of ruins with the garment of another, as Rappai suggests.

The inexplicable presence of Egypt in Syria has always vexed Egyptologists. Indeed, to accommodate this powerful magnetic pull, this region has been considered an annexe of Egypt.

A must read for every student of Egyptology and biblical studies. A must read for all the armchair explorers out there who want to sink their teeth into areal live-wire history mystery, one that take on a hundred thousands scholars head-on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Facinating hypothesis
The Bible Betrayed attempts to resolve the enigma of missing archaeological evidence for the Bible. It suggestions that the reconstructed map of the Levant (including the Holy Land), suffers from an error and is indeed the root cause for the Bible's archaeological no-show. While this is indeed the standard position of the biblical maximalists, the author suggests that the map suffers from a fundamental or fatal error reconstruction error.

What is this fatal error?

Ancient Egypt was misidentified and misplaced. Ancient Egyptians were poor builders, and textual sources reveal them to have been a sophisticate populace much along the lines of ancient Greece. What we have now is exactly the opposite and clearly a case of mistaken identity.

The Egypt error skews the whole map. It caused Ethiopia of the Greek scholars and Canaan of the Bible to be separately reconstructed when in reality they are merely two different perspectives of the same city-state. This fact is elaborately established by tallying similarities between the two. History, topographical and political similarities are painstakingly tallied. The author cleverly uses corroborating ancient world textual sources such as Strabo, Josephus and Herodotus, to establish it in an irrefutable and transparent manner.

Incidentally, tracing the root cause of the Ethiopia-Canaan duplication is what that leads to Egypt error. Once again, using the corroborative approach, the author establishes that ancient Egypt too is erroneous.
Real Egypt was located in the Middle East where Syria is situated. With incredible easy the author eases Egypt into an altogether different landscape. The Nile and its delta are identified, and indeed, the whole reconstruction is expertly put into place in the most believable manner. The fit too is hand-in glove and everything makes much more sense. Frankly, the entire presentation is very unnerving.

As if this weren't enough, the new map is tested; it is used to locate Jerusalem. Here, a key extract from Strabo comes in handy. Jerusalem which was located in the mountains, was visible from the coast, it states. Using this clue, a fort-temple ruin set on a mountain ridge is triangulated. Closer examination reveals it to be a perfect match. The acropolis is exactly as described by Josephus and Strabo. One look at the photograph (use `customer image' link beneath the title image to reach) is enough to trigger cardiac arrhythmia amongst seasoned bible archaeologist. The resemblance is so uncanny!

The book is well written and written for the lay audience. All the arguments are structured well and the complex unraveling of this Gordian knot is indeed expertly done.

The whole ideology is new from end to end. Thus, petty scholars, especially short-order Wikipedia scholars empowered with stars and bottle-cap medallions to save the world, will undoubtedly bay for blood, and try their utmost to berate this discovery-hypothesis, make a mockery of the presentation. Senior scholars are however well advised to take a close look. ... Read more

Divided in two parts, this book chronicles the civilization of Ancient Egypt. The first part focuses on the history of Egypt from the earliesttimes to the Roman period. The second part takes the reader along thecountry and provides a detailed map of each region. 4-0 out of 5 stars An easy and informative read on Ancient Egyptian women
The lives of women in ancient Egypt are poorly documented and Barbara Watterson is careful to note the gaps in our knowledge in this well written and very interesting book on the lives of these ancient ladies.

The author points out that Egyptian society was for practical purposes a "man's world" where all the public offices were held by men, but it was the women who held the land (and the right to descent for property). Both men and women were equal before the law and the women of ancient Egypt had many rights before the law that were not granted again in the western world till the late 19th century.

This book discusses male attitudes towards women, as has survived in ancient manuscripts, women in society and law, health and childbirth (where you can be disgusted by the medical remedies), dress and adornment, household duties and women of power such as the four Queens Regent of Egypt and the power and history of the Divine Wives of Amun.

For anyone who is interested in the lives of women in ancient Egypt this book is well researched and informative and makes an interesting read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Explanations Yet
Excellently written and dutifully researched, this is probably the best compilation of information on the anomalies of ancient Egypt and the best set of theories yet on how those anomalies came to be. It's also a great reference book; when dry Egyptologists and skeptics try to make light of the building of intricately and precisely built gargantuan structures in our ancient past, turn to the chapters on the hunter-gatherer state of existence of those who are generally accepted by the mainstream as having built said structures during the standard given time frame. Then turn to the pages that give you quotes and production times for the building and quarrying of similar structures by today's largest contractors. Scientists and skeptics will stutter alike, or give you an excuse much more ridiculous than the obvious conclusion that homo sapiens developed an advanced technology within the 500,000 years he had to do it in, before his history and most of the evidence of his architecture and science was destroyed some 11,600 years ago at the end of the last "Ice Age." After all, scientists want us to believe that everything that makes us modern was developed within the last 5000 years....what on Earth were we doing for all those hundreds of thousands of years before the mass extinctions and losses of entire continents around 11,600 B.C.? Our prehistoric ancestors were larger brained than us, stronger than us, and much heartier than us, and they had a lot more time than we did to develop technology. The most densely populated areas in which those people lived now lies under the sea, and we have only found the fossils of those prehistoric people who lived in the boon docks of the world, hundreds of years behind the level of civilization of their brothers who would have lived on the prime real estate of the coast. Conservative scientists tend to overlook the evidence that actually did survive the catastrophes of 11,600 years ago, but luckily Brennan has assembled a great bulk of the most well documented and factual portions of this evidence in just a few short books. I gave up on the highlighter just 20 pages in, because almost every sentence is profound.
Brennan does a wonderful job illustrating how technology can come into existence without the steps that are generally accepted as having to lead up to it with chapters on people such as Tesla and Keeley, who were hundreds of years before their time and whose knowledge seems to have almost come out of nowhere. Indeed, NASA has only touched on the technological advances made by Keeley's sonic tech a hundred years ago, and is currently accepting bids for private businesses to develop such things further.
Amazing and thorough evidence has been presented in this volume for some pretty far out theories to explain what the pyramids and certain chambers within them were actually used for, and yet I daresay the author provides a much more compelling case than the radicals like Z.S. and the closed minded conservative Egyptologists and skeptics.
Brennan is well-versed in the scientific method and totally lucid and logical in his thoughts, unlike many sensationalists who are theorizing on ancient Egypt's past. The author does not need to reach for aliens visiting from Niburu, at least in this offering, because man had enough time to develop a technology as advanced as ours at least five times over before the devastations of 11,600 years ago, which destroyed all of the prime real estate that man's biggest populations were inhabiting during those remote times.

5-0 out of 5 stars Convincing!
This book was a pleasure to read. I want to learn more about Egypt after reading it. It includes notes and a bibliography-- very helpful for anyone planning to do more research. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Primer on Ancient Egpyt's Mysteries
As an avid student of lost civilization and technology, I truly appreciated this entertaining yet serious book. It effectively discards conventional "knowledge", places in front of the reader a variety of mind-bending mysteries regarding ancient Egypt, and then proposes plausible and exciting answers. The book efficiently covers a lot of territory. It left me wanting more information on some subjects but provided ideas about further study, including the author's other books, which I have ordered and look forward to devouring soon. This was a all-in-all a very satisfying read for this lover of lost knowledge.

4-0 out of 5 stars An incredibly well researched study of Egyptology
I was a bit sceptical when I first approached this book but after the first few pages I was immersed in the wonderful theories presented by the author. The only reason that it does not recieve 5 stars is due to the fact that the author often times veers wildly off of the subject matter. A great read for History buffs with open minds. ... Read more

Product Description
One of the most realistic, fictional accounts of ancient Egyptian life ever penned, Scribe’s Ascent is the first novel in the Amenhotep, Son of Hapu: A Tale of Egypt series. As Egypt’s foremost ©minent grise, Amenhotep narrates in Scribe’s Ascent his rise from a miserable provincial backwater to a position second only to Pharaoh’s in power. The story unfolds as Egypt is on the verge of a cultural and religious upheaval that threatens everything the aged scribe cherishes.Tenaciously devoted to tradition, betrayed by his family, and with a new king, his one-time pupil, plotting to destroy him, Amenhotep now understands he played a pivotal role in triggering the coming catastrophe, an era later called the “Amarna Revolution.” To avoid everlasting damnation, Amenhotep begins to plead his case: that his single purpose in life was to preserve the established order—the perfection of things at the beginning—against change, confusion, and chaos. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A delight but Oh !!! the editing !!!
I cannot help but agree with every good thing said about this book by other reviewers . Its seems paltry to suggest or to wish that the editing of the novel had mirrored the skill of the author. I found it unpleasantly distracting to be constantly filling in missed words and correcting punctuation. Otherwise , an engrossing read . Well done !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Small, fascinating story that really stays with you
An interesting book, very evocative of the period leading up to Akhenaten and the horrible turmoil of his reign. The narrator is another actual historical figure, a scribe, famous in his time, and worshiped as a god by the common people after his death. There is supposed to be a part II, I hope there will be.

However, I take issue with some of the reviewers--- my understanding of later Egyptian society was that there were people from everywhere, a sort of mixed, melting pot of ethnic groups lived in Egypt.Certainly in the harems of the Pharaoh there were women from everywhere which may explain the appearance of the famous bust of Nefertiti and the red or auburn hair of Ramses III (not dyed according to experts who examined the root structure--this was true of other royal family members as well.)Not to obssess on skin or eye or hair color, but since some prior reviewers brought it up----and this is NOT to denigrate the obvious African ancestry of kings such as the beautiful Tutankhamun and his grandmother Queen Tiy whose bust is also available to be seen in museums and is clearly African in appearance.

My view of the book however is that it is excellent, a lovely story, true to life and "voice" of the narrator does stay with you. Please hurry with part II!

I finished the book not too long ago and was just amazed of the adventure I have just begun with Amenhotep. I just couldn't find the words to describe the feeling this excellent piece of literature gave me. Then it dawned on me, let me talk about how this epic adventure made me feel.

When I first began to read this tale I was a bit resistant because of the orientation Blake chose to give the reader at the begining. In hind-site, I really appreciate it now. I had to get in a mind state of what Ancient Egypt was like, its culture, its traditions, its geographical make up, its lingo and overall ambience. Only then then I realize I was being prepared to journey into the memories of Amenthotep and the world that made him.

Once I made my commitment to letting Amenhotep guide me through his world, I was secure in my ride of adventures embedded with emotions. Unfortunately, I feel I got left hanging upside down on one of the many loops of this ride and the engineer went and took a lunch while I dangle. I need this ride to continue!

I was very impressed with this book and I had the pleasure to meet Mr Blake Willey and I am very impressed about his knowledge and passion about Ancient Eygpt. This book deserves much attention from the world and I only hope it makes its way into our educational system as a must read for historical culture. I looke forward to the remaining series of Amenthotep, Son of Hapu.

I've not been to Egypt, but the mental journey that resulted from the partaking of this wonderful literary piece, left me longing to actually visit the land of Egypt.I feel as though I've been there as a result of Mr. Willey's ability to take you there through written word. A good read, an engaging tale.Kudos to the author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, rivoting, accurate portrait of Ancient Egypt !!!
I have just finished reading, Amenhotep, Son of Hapu: A Tale of Egypt! What an adventure into a relatively unknown, or forgotten past! From the first few paragraphs, to the last word, I was transformed back in to time to Ancient Egypt...and in my opinion, as a historian, one of the best interpretations of the subject I have read in years. Better than Mika Waltari's The Egyptian....and I would put Mr. Willey's writing style up there with Mary Renault.

I could "see" the motionless sweaty dark bodies of the scribes, waiting patiently for the "old man" Amenhotep to continue his telling of his life's story an eventual attempt to save his life and eternal soul...... From the miniscule detail of the birds flying in the sky to the ranting of very spoiled priest who sees the child Hapu as a nuisance and a threat....the vision of young children giggling the crowd over the tax collector's discomfort to their life on the Nile or the simple pleasure of having your stomach finally full....

Mr. Willey has successfully transported the reader back to an Egypt that few realize existed. It is not the Egypt of "The Ten Commandments" with blue eyed Egyptians....it is a true representation that Egyptians were African...a fact that the public is not aware and one that Mr. Willey portrays with such elegance and an obvious talent for the written word....it's as if the spirit of Amenhotep has come through in his writing...."just to make sure it is done right!"

I was drawn into the pages, hanging on every word....and very disappointed it had to end....and so relieved to realize that this is but Book One and am anxiously waiting to continue the journey of Amenhotep.........to enjoy his triumphs...cry at his disappointments and to experience the talent of Mr. Willey......and hopefully through this book there will be a renewed interest in the value of good, accurate and entertaining historical novels. If I could I would give it 10 stars!! ... Read more
