Product Description
This is Volume I of a two book drug education and crime prevention program designed specifically for distressed communities with a youth crime problem. Volume II is entitled Making Choices And Facing Consequences: Drugs And Alcohol. The stories in this book are based on true incidents. They involve children and young adults from the same type of communities and backgrounds as the children and young adults we are trying to reach. The stories revolve around: 1. the short-term benefits of gang membership versus the long-term consequences and how all gang members eventually end up hurt, dead or in prison; 2. the benefits of saying no to gangs and drugs, staying in school and working hard; 3. violent crimes committed by young adults who failed to stop and consider all of the potential consequences of their actions before they took them; 4. bullying and the potential consequences of taking a gun to school; and 5. sexual assault and domestic violence and why it is never acceptable to inappropriately touch someone or resort to violence when things don't go your way. Each story builds to a point of importance and then presents the character (s) with one or more critical choices. Good choices have good consequences. Bad choices have bad consequences. The choices have urgency and meaning for the young reader who faces the same choices on a daily basis. Working through these real life situations will improve the readers decision making skills when it comes to gangs, bullies and violent crimes. ... Read more

Product Description
Once upon a time, there was a little old lady who had a stroke and had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. When she woke up, she discovered that the stroke had left her face disfigured. She had twisted lips. She started to cry and her husband tried to comfort her.He bent over to kiss her and made a shocking discovery. It didn't work.He missed her lips. The same lips he had kissed a million times before. He bent over a second time determined to express his love. This time he manipulated and twisted his lips to accommodate hers.He made contact and she knew just how much he loved her. As a result of crime, drugs and violence, many of our children have twisted lips.We can't reach them with traditional middle class curriculums or conventional teaching techniques. We need a fresh, new, innovative approach. We must be prepared to twist our lips to accommodate theirs. Many of them have rejected the American Dream of getting ahead by getting a good education and working hard. They see that the American Dream didn't work for their kin and they have no reason to believe it will work for them. They also see a disproportionate number of their family members and friends going to prison. As a result, they question the fairness of the criminal justice system and their equality under the law. Many of them choose gangs, drugs and crime out of desperation before they realize the life altering consequences of these choices.Making Choices And Facing Consequences is designed to: 1)promote the development of personal self-management skills; 2)teach readers what constitutes unlawful and risky behavior and how to avoid dangerous and unsafe situations; and3)promote responsible citizenship and behavior standards. Fifteen of the resource units in this book consist of real life stories about children and young adults. The stories revolve around gangs, drugs, violent crimes, property crimes and sexual assaults. Each story builds to a point of importance and then presents the character(s) with critical choices. Our message is delivered through these stories. The beauty of the program is the power of these stories, the way they are told, the way they engage the students, and the teaching opportunities they create. ... Read more

Product Description
“Drug and alcohol abuse constitutes a major threat to our children. This chemical plague operates like an infectious disease and crosses all class, social, cultural and racial lines. From the heart of the poorest city, to the outer limits of the richest suburbs, the testimony is the same. We are losing more and more children to drugs. It doesn’t matter if it’s crack, meth, ecstasy or the prescription drugs our children are stealing from our medicine cabinets. The result is the same. We are losing more and more children to drugs. Unfortunately, there is no one-time, anti-drug vaccination we can give our children. The only effective antibiotic is to teach them how to make the right choice every time they are confronted with drugs and alcohol. We must do more than simply tell our children to say no. We must teach them why they must say no and show them the potential consequences if they don’t. We can’t afford to minimize the harsh realities of drug addiction or wait until after their first street exposure to drugs. The materials and stories contained in this book are designed to educate the reader about certain drugs and initiate a discussion about the potential life changing choices children and young adults face when it comes to drugs and alcohol. We believe this is a discussion that every child in America needs to participate in.” ... Read more

From the supplier: Six hundred employees of the real estate management firm Douglas Elliman-Gibbons and Ives have undergone a special crime prevention program with the New York City Police Dept. (NYPD). The training has been designed to deal specifically with security situations in apartment buildings, such as identifying criminals and police authorities, and knowing which type of people can be allowed into a building. The combat auto theft program was also implemented by the NYPD. This will allow the police to monitor registered vehicles that may have been stolen, without requiring the owners to report to the precinct.
