5-0 out of 5 stars Children's book
This book is intended for preschool to grade 2 children. The reading level is for Kindergarten to grade 1. It is an easy-reader book with very simple text and bright color photographs.

2-0 out of 5 stars VERY simple book for young chlidren only
VERY elementary. It's for a young child and it's short and small. I guess what I'm saying is I"m un-recommending it unless you intend it for a child around age 5. It does say ages 9-12 but I was still surprised at it's simplicity. A whole page may say "Ragdolls need food and water every day". Some nice full color pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars ragdoll honeys
This is a great introductory book about Ragdoll cats.It is a good book for small children with a beginning interest in animals and especially cats.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cat Care
This book was so useful! I have senior citizen cats and with health not being the best its great to have alternatives! If you have cats with anxiety, the passion flower works great!

4-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE
This book is well written! Dr. Kidd gives great stories from his own experience. I have used a few of his remedies for my cats and they worked. I always consult my vet before using a remedy though. I like to make sure my cat's problem isn't so serious it's life threatening. As long as you are careful about that, then this book is a MUST HAVE. I only wish he went into more detail on some things and had more "concoctions". Also wish he would come out w/ a book on Aromatherapy for pets or have included it in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great down to earth book about cat care
I am very impressed with this book (and the one about Dog care too). I have lots of herb books but this is the first one I've bought about pet care. It's well written, easy to understand, and full of great information. Of course it's not extremely in depth, but gives a great start for anyone just beginning to learn about holistic health for pets. I wish this guy could be our vet!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr Kidd's Guide to Herbal Cat Care
I think herbal care is a wonderful way to help heal our furry loved ones.I use herbs to treat some of my problems, why wouldn't I want to do the same for my cats! That is why I feel this is a wondeful book! This book lists all the types of herbs you can use on your cats.I also appreciate how easy the author layed out the different remedies for different conditions. Dr. Kidd also gives us an easy way to figure out doses. I feel good knowing I can turn to this book for help when my cats have anyproblems. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook
This is a great book...so informative.Any cat owner should definitely have this book in their library.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have a cat you need this book
If you have a cat that you care for, or about, there will be times when you have questions and need clear and factual answers. This is the book you need for fast, clear answers which can save your cat's life.

By the time that you notice that something may be wrong with you cat, they may be in serious trouble. This is a book that tells you what various symptoms may mean and how serious they may be. It gives expert advice on how to care for your healthy cat, how to insure his continued health, and how to care for an injured cat until he can be transported to the vet.

It may tell you more than you really wish to know at times, but you may decide which sections you want to read and how much of them to read. Some of the illustrative photos, though very helpful, can be distressing to see. However, it is better to have more information than you want than less than you need.

No book replaces the need for good veterinarian, regular visits, or a call to see if an emergency visit is advisable, but this book gives excellent adjunct advice and tips to keep your cat healthy and safe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't replace a vet, but lets you know when you should visit one!
Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook, Fully Revised and Updated is a good basic guide to your cat's health. While it doesn't replace the vet, it can save you a trip for some simple ailments and can let you know when you should get your cat to the vet ASAP.

If you buy the book, in order to get the most out of it, I would suggest familiarizing yourself with the contents. There is an index of signs and symptoms on the front cover, a detailed contents, a general index and cross-references. This pre-work, makes it easy to quickly find what you are looking for when you need the book without a lot of fumbling. The content pages are easy to scan and find information by system (urinary, digestive, respiratory etc) or body part (eyes, nose, skin) as well as chapters on diseases, emergencies and more!

If you want a go-to reference book for your cats, this is a really good one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cat Owner's Book a must
I have two cats inside and two that have been abandoned by their original owners outside. This book has a lot of great information for treating some things at home.I did find that for most illnesses I would need to seek veterinary care. However, the book helps you to make that determination.

5-0 out of 5 stars All you need to know and more!
I have a biomedical background and have some veterinary experience since I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was younger, although I never did become a vet. Many years ago I got the dog owner's version of this handbook and referred to it when my dog got older and became sick.Because of my experience with the dog owner's version, I knew I wanted the cat owner's version.

I found "The Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" to be well written and easy to use.It does not overwhelm the reader with veterinary medical terminology and is easily understood by the average cat owner. It is easy to find information using the "Signs and Symptoms" and "General" indexes. There is more information than you will probably ever want to know or need to know; however, it is all worthwhile having available in the event your cat gets ill.

I am reading and skimming through the handbook.Even if you just keep it on your bookshelf just in case your cat gets sick, "The Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" is a VERY worthwhile purchase. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Handy Kitten Guide -- Kindle Edition Reviewed
Our last "new kitten" is now 13 and a cranky old lady, so when we decided to add a kitten to our feline family I was thrilled to find this little book so affordable on Kindle. It really does cover everything -- vet visits, which vaccines you need and which you might want to skip (and why), how to choose your new pet, how to introduce it to the other members of the household, carrying for rescued newborns if you find yourself having to do that, training, even cat lore and legends. Everything seems accurate and the parts we've needed to consult have been very helpful. the info on cat behavior and social interaction is fascinating and useful. Plus, cute kitten pics! Shojai clearly loves cats and writes in a pleasant, chatty style.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential book for kitten parents!
I purchased Complete Kitten Care in the Kindle version, since we have been used to adult cats for a long time, and wanted to brush up on raising kittens. The book is extremely well written, well organized, highly informative and a lot of fun to read.Amy Shojai has included a lot of adorable photos of kittens, and she writes with a fantastic sense of humor, so I enjoyed the book on many levels.

It is possible to be parents of kitties without such helpful advice, but you and your kittens will be much happier and have a better relationship after reading Complete Kitten Care. She covers everything from preparing to bring your kittens home, choosing your kitten(s), food and snacks, litterbox training, play, training in general, providing appropriate scratching targets and encouraging kitties in their use, health, travel, and plenty of information about emergencies. Some of the most helpful information will be the portions on understanding how kittens view their world and you and how to interpret kitten body language and behavior.

Whether you already have kittens or are planning to adopt some, please do yourself and your kitty children a favor and buy Complete Kitten Care.I know I will be referring to the book often for the kittens we will adopt soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Kitten Care From the Cat Expert
If you can't take cat expert Amy Shojai home with you to care for your kitten, the next best thing is to buy this book. Amy is a longstanding pet authority and writes with reassurance and good humor about the joys and challenges of raising a kitten. Well researched and engaging, this is a book that should be on the shelves of every cat lover.

Product Description
Veterinary vaccines are given to prevent disease, yet studies show that they are often debilitating and fatal. They have been linked to autoimmune and neurological disorders, including cancer, diabetes, arthritis, tumors, seizures, allergies, digestive problems, organ failure, and many other serious ailments. Many veterinarians, both conventional and holistic, are questioning the validity of annual revaccination. They are moving away from this arbitrary recommendation which is unsupported by science. Many also refuse to use certain vaccines because the disease in question is either so benign or rare that the risks associated with vaccination outweigh any promised benefit. This important book provides information on all canine and feline vaccines. It includes several personal stories of vaccine damage to family pets, as well as hundreds of studies documenting veterinary vaccine safety and efficacy problems. As a concerned pet owner, you can now make informed decisions about the health and welfare of your precious four-legged friends. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just do your research
I think every person that has a dog or cat should read this book.People really need to be educated on what they are putting into their animal companions.Vaccinations aren't bad but we do over vaccinated and also give too many vaccinations at the same time. The book has a lot of good facts that most people do not know and also information for further reading. Its you who has to take care of your animal companions welfare. Yes majority of vets love animals otherwise they would not be in the business. The key word is business they get more money when an animal is vaccination frequently. Vaccinations should be kept to a minimum andif a animal is getting more then one vaccination it should only be 2 at one time and then wait awhile for the others (least 6 weeks) There are many people who have started to go vaccination free and their dogs are perfectly fine and healthy. The book also shows that there is no evidence that frequent/yearly vaccination keeps an animal healthy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Will you or won't you?
This is an excellent reference book with very in-depth information. I was amazed and impressed with how factual and unbiased this book is. Most books are lobbying for or against an idea, especially on the controversial issue of health, but Catherine presents the facts as she has found them and lets the reader decide for themselves how to act on them.

1-0 out of 5 stars When I bought the book I thought I was to understand the impact of re-vaccination
I really do not recommend this book. If somebody wants to reduce re-vaccination to his dog I strongly recommend to find out different authors. that can tell you why re-vaccination is not recommended based on a scientific basis. This book tells you that some vaccines are not well proved and may affect your dogs health. However I think that the author is not a Vet. and does not have the scientific basis to make the recommendations. If somebody else read the book, please do not follow what the author says unless you have asked your vet and you have done a deeper investigation about it.

1-0 out of 5 stars aaa what???
First of all I'm a book worm. Most of the time any book is good....This one however I could not understand....Not only it's a sort of a boring topic, but the writer is just showing off all the difficult words she knows, I'm not talking about the medical terms...The research she did is good, but written in a way to make you put the book down after reading one page or pulling up words from the dictionary every minute or so...

-Tired and still trying to put this puzzle together from Cleveland, OH..???

5-0 out of 5 stars Great in a disturbing way!
This book opened my eyes big time! I recomend it for anyone who owns pets or has kids. It can be a bit technical at times - I had to read some sections twice to really get it, but well worth the effort. I strongly recomend you read this and follow or start with "The nature of animal healing."
This book will also get you to questions vaccines used in humans...autism for your young daughter anyone??

Read it but don't let the quest for knowledge on this subject stop at this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars fun read
Thiscats, cat breeds and cat care, has every breed imagineable in it. We now know what kinds of cat's we like and how to take care of them. Some have special needs. Wenow know what to expect about the cat's personality and if they are good around kids or not. Some do not take kindly to children. We wanted to find out about all the different breeds of cats, and we did!! Now we just need to narrow down to the one's we like the most, to just one cat! Not going to be easy! This is a fun book, just looking and discussing the cats and breeds with my children was and is fun. Good quality time together! We spent hours of fun just on this one book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite informative guide for any cat owner
What makes this book useful is the plethora of information it gives on cats as well as the way it is organized. The encyclopedia is quite thorough in detailing not only the various subjects of cats, but types of cats and other areas concerning care and behavior.

There are many topics covered. One of the first main sections focuses on what a person should look for and know ahead of time before choosing a cat for adoption. It gives some tips on what to look for in a healthy cat, and how to care for a sick cat, as well as how to maintain a healthy lifestyle for your pet. This section is followed by advice on how to create the right environment for your cat: how you can help your cat "settle" into its new home, what to do if it does not adjust well, access to litter boxes, toys for cats, etc. This is followed by a section on how to care for cats home and away. If you happen to be leaving town for a time, there are some helpful bits of advice on how to make it less stressful on your feline friends. Explored in this section are such things on dangers to cats within the home and outside and ideas about access to the outside, such as how often you should let your cat out. There is also a section on nutrition and feeding, which goes over how much and what you should feed your cat based on its age or weight. Perhaps the biggest section is the one which goes over the many types of cats--these are broken into shorthair and longhair. There are many pictures of the various types, as well as information on their personalities and temperaments. The final section is about sickness and diseases, from minor to serious, and how to go about treating each one.

What I found most helpful about the book is the broad range of topics about cats. You can think of a common question about your cat, and it is probably answered in this book. There are tons of pictures of cats and their many predicaments included in the book, but this isn't just a "pretty" encyclopedia meant to grab you with its big, cute pictures. There is a ton of information for someone who has never had a cat, and information for someone who has grown up with cats all their life. The cat novice and the cat veteran will probably agree this is an excellent book! A must for any cat lover!

4-0 out of 5 stars cat book review
a good start to introducing most of the cat breeds. many omitted. the book itself was a bit outdated, b
ut still enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictorial reference book on cats
This beautiful reference book on cat care and the world's cat breeds makes a lovely coffee table book. It has over 700 photos of cats. It's printed on semi-glossy, flexible and thick paperstock.

The book is separated into two parts. Part One is "Caring for your Cat" and it starts with history of the cat. Then it goes on to many topics that any cat owner should be aware of. A few of the topics covered in part one are:Creating the right enviroment, selecting the right cat, care at home & away, nutrition & feeding, grooming, behavior, health and injuries & ailments of cats.

In part two,"The Breeds", there's a complete pictorial encyclopedia of all the main cat breeds. Each breed and the breed's many color combinations are fully described. It also has information on any important characteristics, such as temperment, grooming needs and average sizes. Non-pedigreed cats are also covered on a limited basis.

This full color, British authored book would make a great guidebook for any new cat owner. It would also make a lovely gift for a cat lover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cat Information Galore
I just love cats. If it weren't for this book I wouldn't of found any of our kittens' breeds. This lists down probably every breed of cat there is, except wild and extinct cats that is. 4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Little Book
My husband and I are the proud owners of a very cool, amazingly intelligent Somali cat named Sunday. However prior to acquiring her, we didn't even know what a Somali cat was. Now, we are always eager to learn about their habits, characteristics and needs. This is a very imformative little book with a lot of great colour pictures. We've discovered some new facts and tips about our cat . . . and there are other things mentioned in the book where we just say that is so, so true of a Somali! All in all, we're really pleased with the purchase. It's a great book to have on the reference shelf. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Cuddleton Kitties Review of a Brit Book
As a British Shorthair breeder I think I wanted more.It has a lot of good general cat info but not much British Shorthair specifics.
The pictures were cute and the general info good but it left me wanting more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but there is still room for a better book.
This is a nice introduction to the British Shorthair "at a glance".High points include a number of nice color pictures, a good description of the breed, and great instructions on care and feeding.

Forthose looking for more in-depth knowledge like breed genetics, what colorsare commonly available (and why) and where you can get them, showhistories, etc... the book fill fall a bit "short".Still highlyrecommended for anyone interested in Brits though because let's face it,one can never have enough British Shorthair info.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book on a Beautiful Breed
This is a fantastic book, absolutely FULL of useful, interesting & informative information - it even includes instructions on how to build your cat's own scratching post!Lessmeier's book is a wonderful treat forlovers of the British Shorthair & it eased my wait until 'Shmoo', ourBritish shorthair arrived.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for every fan of British Shorthair
You'll find the book colorful and concise, with much helpful information for you to understand and take care your lovely fur ball - British Shorthair. I just love it! :)

4-0 out of 5 stars A welcome little paperback on the Brit.with great photos.
This 64-page paperback is the first publication I've ever found on the British Shorthair, and is a perfect introduction to this beautiful breed of cat.Given the book's brevity, it responsibly addresses an ambitious rangeof topics specific to the Brit. from a professional breeder's perspective. The book also features many stunning color photos of British Shorthairkittens and cats---these photos alone are worth the small price of thebook! I recommend this book to breeders as well as to all fans of BritishShorthairs, the teddy bears of the cat world. ... Read more
