Some good some bad.
I liked the line drawings very easy to follow. The book contains some spinal dislocators which I thought were workable. As for the high kicks that he feels that he must put in his books they should be left for the TKD competitors. The have no business in the true pavement area.

My impression is that the tecniques described in this book gets more and more complex during each turn of the pages, chiefly because of the need to get enough material for a book.

The last technique for example:
The victim gets a couple of subduing strikes, thereafter a shuto to each of the collarbones, then cross your arms, grasp the shoulder of your victim and pull the supposedly broken collarbones into the Pulmonary/circulatory system...then if victim still stands upright, a elbow to the temple concludes..
overly complex?? naah..


Still, for the person who wants to learn how to execute fast and efficient, this book do have some good ones..
I feel however that in order to sort them out, one must have prior experience/knowledge...this is not the first book on this subject that should be read, but rather the tenth..
Also, please understand that this is not the tecniques you learn in your local dojo, this is more connected to the world of military CQB..many people thing they are "lethal weapons" just because they have a black belt in a martial art...that is just not true..but you need some experience from both worlds to pick the goodies, discard the inferior stuff, and understand this book.

I must say, that out of my many years of training in martialarts, I have learned many techniques of killing. This book containsseveral more. I have trained in martial arts most of my life and have learned over 200 ways to kill a man with my bare hands, but, when I opened the cover of this book I was honestly disgusted. When you take this material in to serious concideration it is not a pleasant thought. If you want to learn to defend yourself, then buy the U.S. Marines Close-Quarters Combat Manual, but please, do not buy this book. ... Read more

Great book and DVD
Highly recommend this book to introduce you to Photoshop. Richard's simple and direct approach to teaching you the fundamentals provides a great foundation for future learning and more advanced concepts. If you are just starting out learning Photoshop, this is an excellent book.

I've never read a book with such simple explaination. Richard has put his full experience to convey the details to the reader> Needless to mention the video lessons included with the book make things easier than you may think. Watch the video first and then read it in the book and this way you will understand what the auther is teaching you.
In a month or less you will find yourseld with at least an intermediate level as a photoshop uuser.

So far...excellent!
Rather than being a flashy "how to" Photoshop book, Richard Harrington's book explains important Photoshop tools, concepts, and functions in a clear and concise manner with practice files that reinforce learning in a useful way.I enjoy reading about the history and development of certain tools - helps me understand them more.There is also lots of related information that one needs to use Photoshop, like how to best capture images from various sources.It's organized and presented so well that when I need help with a particular tool, I can find information quickly.I've just begun to harvest the wealth of information in this book, and keep it by my computer at all times.

Understanding CS-5
This book appears to be a CS-4 manual quickly and non-comprehensively updated to hit the high points of CS-5.It is definitely not a fresh look at a new product (i.e. CS-5) but retreads the upgrade from CS-3 to CS-4 with some CS-5 pointers thrown in to justify the book's title.The book does contain some useful, basic and generic CS techniques that allow a rating of two stars, but not more that two.

Excelent for Beginners
I recently borrowed this book from the library and have been so impressed I plan to purchase it shortly.Most of the stitches that have been presented are accessible to a complete novice (there are some that are recommended for those who have some experience).The pictures and detailed instructions are much easier for me to follow the other books I have looked at, as a beginner myself I certainly would recommend this book to help get others started.
