5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This book really helped my Mother understand what was happening to her, and helped her cope. I really recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Patient/family gives this 5 stars
A patient and his wife, particiating in the Mild Cognitive Impairment study, were looking for information on AD as he had just converted to a diagnosis of Alzheimer's.Their response to this book was that we should give a copy to everyone who comes into our Center. The wife has read other books and given lukewarm responses, so this was really a significant recommendation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, Brief Review
Having read many books on Alzheimer's, I found this one to be particularly useful, especially as a reference since it is presented an easy to use question and answer format. The authors address a lot of questions relatedto the social and emotional aspects of dealing with the disease. It isbrief, but it is intended to be to the point.Definately worthwhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful, compassionate book.
Since I have been fortunate not to have any dealings with Alzheimer'sDisease, I read the book and came away with a different perspective. Thisis not only a book about dealing with the specific disease, but can beapplied to any situation that looks or is hopeless. It is a book about howto live your life successfully whether you have two weeks or twenty years. The authors have incorporated much of their own life philosophies in thisquestion/answer format; and the reader is the benefactor. The compassionand caring of these two dedicated authors is evident on each page. I hopethe book continues to fall into the right hands. I truly believe it canmake a difference in how we perceive and define the process of dying.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book speaks directly to the Alzheimer's patient!
Many books about Alzheimer's disease assume that family caregivers or professionals are reading them. Alzheimer's: The Answers You Need is the first book written expressly for the patient. The book assumes that people with AD are intelligent, sensitive and desperately seeking answers to questions about their condition. Moreover, the book does not overwhelm with information nor does it condescend in attempts to convey a point. Each section of the book centers on a question about the disease and straightforward answers are provided. Some pages, interestingly enough, have more blank space than words printed on them -- but that's okay. The idea here is to be concise, smooth and clear in letting a person with a devastating disease know what lies ahead. The book is geared toward people in the early stages of AD, however, it provides sound information for those who are caregivers and professionals who want a better understanding of Alzheimer's disease. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars excellent seller!
Item was as described, good value and fast shipping. I would buy from this seller again without hesitation!

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding Alzheimer's
John Medina, Ph.D. not only authored this detailed, concise book about Alzheimer's Disease, but also drew the terrific graphics describing the various aspects of the disease.

Medina spends quite a bit of timeexplaining the "biology of Alzheimer's Disease" which can get quitetechnical. But, if you are interested in how the brain and nerve cells areaffected, as well as other physical aspects of the disease, you will lovethese sections. His graphics are superb. My other favorite chapters dealwith understanding difficult behavior, suggesting helpful, personalinterventions, and offering practical advice for helping with the activities of daily living for a person with Alzheimer's Disease.

Inshort, the book is wonderfully designed, clearly detailed, and touchinglycompassionate. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding Alzheimer's Will Lighten The Load
This is a book that I have recommended to numerous people in the last few months. Mostly folks who have family members living with this horrible disease, who have little or no knowledge as to it's reality. Many who think of it only as a "memory problem".

Alzheimers: A Caregiver's Guide and Sourcebook, covers an incredible amount of information from both the patient's and caregiver's point of view. The author talks to you at an understandable level as he explains what is known about the intricacies of the disease at this time. His compassion for those dealing with Alzheimer's at one level or another, is comforting. He has dealt with the dispair and confusion that many of us face daily and it is apparent in his presentation.

Although I thought I had a fairly good idea as to what AL is about, this book has helped me in numerous ways. Defusing or avoiding catastrophic episodes was a problem for me, but reading his advice has helped considerably. We are having much fewer problems at this time. I have lowered my expectations and am learning to allow more time for us to prepare and deal with tasks to be done. Not rushing my husband makes a world of difference. There are numerous situations that have improved with the advice and information discussed. I also know that I am "not alone" in battle against this miserable disease and I am going to enjoy the good times we have together rather than "always" bemoaning worst.

Please read "Alzeimer's: A Caregiver's Guide and Sourcebook". It will help you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
If a family member has been diagnosed with AD, this is a very helpful resource for you to purchase. It provides very clear descriptions of behaviors and how to understand them, as well as respond. I recommend this having read much of what's out there on this subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Alzheimers - A Caregivers Guide
Having practiced as a psychotherapist for over 15 years, this is the book I have referred over and over to help family members of those with Alzheimers. It's a wonderful book. Easy to read. Full of practical tools and tremendously supportive for the caregiver.Worth every cent.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great book to help you through the tough times!
My mother died of Alzheimer's in January of 2006. This book hepled my father, myself (the only child)and my wife through the whole process. It is realistic and tells one what to expect and how to handle each stage of this terminal illness. I highly recommend this book to the caretaker and his/her family to help them understand and deal with the realities of Alzheimer's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource handbook.
This book was very helpful in my search for answers when my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. My grandmother also had this disease -- I was the only caregiver for both women. This book explained the disease thoroughly and it's effects on others.Like most mental illnesses, when a person has this, other people tend to avoid the patient, and also the caregiver. You feel isolated and lonely, frustrated and sad.Since the disease gets progressively worse, one of the feelings you experience is grief. You grieve for the person you are losing, even though many times the person is still vital and active physically. This book was a great help in explaining the many facets of Alzheimer's disease.I highly recommend this book to anyone facing this disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Readable Question and Answer Guide
A very useful question and answer format approach to this disease. Highly readable. I especially found the core chapters helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!Concise, but comprehensive.
The author uses a question and answer format throughout the book that is organized in a rational, well-flowing manner. This allows the reader to easily focus on his or her specific questions and concerns. The paperback is 192 pages, including the introduction, table of contents, resource section, glossary, and index. On a personal note, the book provided up-to-date, easy-to-understand definitions and answers to all of my questions. ...
