Product Description

Phil Mason, former intelligence officer and one-time instructor at the British Army School of Sniping, is struggling to make ends meet as a private investigator when he's contacted by his former MI5 liaison officer. The overstretched security service needs all the help it can get hunting down members of al-Qaeda terror cells in the UK—and Mason needs the cash. But in the murky intelligence world of smoke and mirrors, nothing is what it seems. As a routine surveillance operation escalates into a full-blown international crisis, Mason must come to terms with the unthinkable: there must be a traitor within Britain's security forces. Entering a desperate race against time to identify and avert a major terrorist threat, Mason must hastily rehone his counter-sniper skills as he returns to the business he swore he had left behind forever—the killing game.

4-0 out of 5 stars The spies in England
`President Down' is an English book that unless you are familiar with some of the British military terminology you might need translations: DPM - disruptive pattern material - what we would call camouflage, when the agents talk about visiting Grosvenor Square they are going to the American Embassy, GCHQ is their intelligence headquarters.Terence Strong really does very little translating for his American audience and some are not easy to figure out or familiar to Americans, some like MI5 or MI6, the tube might be more well-known.
There are also some interesting insights to the British view of the war on terror and of President Bush, who is the president in the title. However there is very little of the president in here. Some of the statistics mentioned, like US aid to Israel are questionable - so know that some tolerance for these factors are going to be needed to enjoy reading this; as is a lot of the radical Muslim rants about "the most evil man in history".
There is really no mention of the president until page 286. There are over 500 pages in the novel, it is somewhat drawn out in places. There is a double twist at the end, that I never saw coming - either one, and usually they are pretty obvious to me. For most of the book the settings are realistic, however it ends at a non-existent RAF/USAF Airbase.

If you make it through the 500 pages and the British military information, you can still smile at the hero and main character, a former British marine sniper, who after a botched break in, waits for the authorities and makes a cup of tea for everyone.
So... for those of us that enjoy political/military/suspense you might appreciate this English author and this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Close to what we should be
The Mid Acts dispensational view is close to what the bible actually says. But the true origin of the Gentile church starts in Acts10:45 if you have the Spirit of God you are His, if not you are none of His. One church starts in Exodus (Acts7:38) the bible says. The next starts with Acts10:45;these do not accompany Peter into the Synagogue, they are not circumcised,to have fellowship with the Jews. Even in Acts21 you have two churches :20 the Jewish believers with their law,and then in :21 the Gentile church with the Jews among them. The law applies to the Gentile church only to avoid blood, fornication, things strangled also found in Acts21;written from the Jewish church to the Gentile one. Also the Kingdom of God is taken from the Jewish nation and given the Gentiles who believe with Jews among them;as evidenced from Acts10:45."Its within you" Jesus said of the Kingdom of God.

If you are a new convert to trusting in the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary as payment for your sins; and now justified before God --> this book will greatly aid you in studying God's word rightly divided (2 Timothy 2:15), and in becoming an effective ambassador for Christ.

If you have been kept under the yoke of man-made religion --> this book may make you very mad because of lies you have been told and trusted, instead of what God's word would teach you when rightly divided.Sit down with God's word, compare scripture with scripture, and hang on!!!

In this book Terence McLean has given clear teaching, and a priceless tool, in helping others see rightly in a time of immense doctrinal confusion. ... Read more

Product Description
The psychedelic experience has been both demonized andmythologized, but what is it really like to trip?

TRIPPING: An Anthology of True-Life Psychedelic Adventures, the first major compilation of personal testimonies about psychedelicexperiences, contains narratives by 50 people of various nationalitiesand walks of life about their most unforgettable altered states --from the heavenly to the horrific. In gripping, often suspensefultales suffused with a high sense of adventure, TRIPPING liberates thepsychedelic experience from the closet of social stigma as well asfrom the mists of Sixties counter-cultural idealism.

Relating the harrowing straits and exhilarating peaks of thepsychedelic inner odyssey are many accomplished writers, includingformer Grateful Dead lyricist John Perry Barlow, war photographer TimPage, Beat poet Anne Waldman, science fiction writer Robert CharlesWilson, thriller writer Steven Martin Cohen, Ecstasy expert BruceEisner, and phenomonologist Paul Devereux.

Most of the narratives, however, come from “ordinary” peoplefrom Sydney to Belfast to San Francisco, for whom their anonymitybrings out an intensely personal, confessional dimension. The stories, edited mostly from taped interviews by journalist Charles Hayes, enable readers to either “trip” vicariously or compare notes ontheir own experiences.

Specially featured is a lengthy conversation with the late TerenceMcKenna, the man who many believe inherited Tim Leary’s mantle asthe leading spokesman for psychedelics from the late Seventies untilhis death in April 2000. A veteran of myriad "heroic doses," McKennadiscusses some of his own trips for the first time, as well as a rangeof issues, including his own provocative brand of eschatology, politics, and anthropology, at the center of which is an abiding faithin the power of psychedelic drugs.

TRIPPING’s balanced, objective perspective portrays bothpositive and negative impacts of psychedelic experiences, depictingboth the tolls and the rewards of such chemically-induced excursionsfrom reality. Types of episodes run the gamut from encounters withgodhead and alien or discarnate entities; out-of-body experiences,freak-outs, flashbacks, psychosis (momentary and otherwise), and actsor events of apparent magic or miracle. The trips described werecatalyzed not just by classic psychedelics such as LSD, but by a widearray of psychotropics, from the sacred plants of indigenous peoplesto the latest synthetic “smart drugs.”

Some sample plotlines

At a summer festival, a man on LSD believes he’s attending the finalcelebration of the gods and that his mission is to mate with hischosen one before the entire tribe moves on to a higher sphere at theclimax of the “orgasm death dance."

A young man eats some peyote buttons on a hike in the Grand Canyon, and stumbles upon a near-death experience.

A group of army buddies test the limits of their bodies' enduranceduring an acid session by a campfire.

The ministrations of the "shining ones", astral beings accessedduring an LSD trip, lure a college student to higher realms ofconsciousness.

A psychedelic ingested at the notorious Altamont concert of 1969triggers a bizarre odyssey through the San Francisco city jail andmental health system for a fellow who believes he’s an angelicrevolutionary.

After a déjà vu of enlightenment during which he begins speaking intongues, a tripper plummets into the flipside of that experience in anepisode of horrific eternal recurrence that revisits him inflashbacks.

A wooden carving of Christ speaks out loud to a seminary studentduring a church service, reshaping her theology and the depth of herfaith.

The narratives in TRIPPING are placed in larger contexts byHayes’s essays, which include a synopsis of the history and cultureof psychedelics from the ancient Greek mystery rites to today'sEcstasy-fueled rave events; an exposition on the kinetics of tripping(what can go right and wrong on a trip), including basic medical andpsychological background; and a concise index of psychedelicsubstances.

The illustrations in TRIPPING are provided by renowned visionaryartist Alex Grey and four computer graphics masters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Product, Fast Delivery
Product description was accurate and delivery was fast.I got the book for my boyfriend and he can't put the darn thing down! Thanks!

4-0 out of 5 stars Anthology of Another World
While reading the wide range of pieces in this anthology--skimming through some, lingering with others--I was most struck by the wide range of differences between contributors; where and when they were from, and what they were into. Sitting here in my house in Woodstock (the actual town, not the icon), I felt less isolated than usual while reading, contemplating what seemed a parallel world occupying the same time and space, but another dimension.

For some, the psychedelic experience was hallucinogenic (for me, like "Jack", I "never had the ultimate experience of seeing things that weren't there and not knowing the difference"--though I did once hear ghostly voices talking to me through walls). And/or it was mythic, with ancient gods and goddesses; spiritual, religious; creative. And/or eye-opening, with what had formerly been abstract now so REAL, in the moment: an existential awakening. And then there were those in this collection who focused on LSD, and psychedelics, as a catalyst that in retrospect changed their lives.

Having been through my own psychedelic era (as a bandanna-wearing hippie), I suspect that many of the contributors, rewriting these pieces, might have a more nuanced reaction now; or years from now. One more grounded, if admittedly more prosaic. (I admit, however, that my absorption in the subject, which led to my own book, affected my critique of this one.) But four stars is still pretty good, if we have to measure things, and more to the point: I'm glad this book was published, because it's good to know there are so many who sought and seek (or reside within) what I think of as spiritual reality, even as I spend my post-psychedelic life defining and redefining what that means.
I Think, Therefore Who Am I?

5-0 out of 5 stars Psychedelic experience as story-telling
This book contains an amazing interview with Terence McKenna, which took place toward the end of his life, that is worth the price of the book.

Tripping is the best story-telling approach to the psychedelic encounter that I have read or experienced. I have always felt that all story-telling festivals need a psychedelic tent, because these extreme experiences are some of the best stories human beings can tell. Through the psychedelic medium human beings still tell stories of meeting gods and demons, travelling to new fantastic worlds, and taking mythic and perilous journeys.

Even though these stories are about the experiences of a number of travellers, Hayes has expertly rewritten their accounts through a single narrative voice. This gives the book continuity it otherwise might have lacked.

Bruce Eisner's story about taking too much LSD at Burning Man is hilarious. Very well done.

4-0 out of 5 stars Armchair Tripping!
This anthology of true life psychadelic experiences, from LSD and Ecstacy to peyote and ayahuasca, is an entertaining, enlightening trip into the world of mind altering drugs, which probably is too honest and unbiased for the liking of authorities who wish to erase drugs from society. Its candid and honest perspective is a refreshing change from the constant message that drugs are bad and must be obliterated. In Tripping, both euphoric and terrifying experiences are related, as well the use of entheogens, drugs used for spiritual purposes.Tripping neither encourages or discourages drug use, it simply lays the facts out straight.Although every trip differs, there are themes that turn up frequently, such as a higher understanding of self and life, of enlightenment, and sometimes of complete disorientation and panic.I'd highly reccomend Tripping to anyone interested in hallucinogenics and tripping.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tripping: A Bit Unreal, But Great
Tripping must be the best compendium of accounts of entheogenic and recreational drug use ever produced. The accounts give the reader the most vivid sense possible of what the tripping experiences are like without actually using the drugs. It deviates a bit from realism, however, insofar as almost all the authors seem intelligent, literate, and can actually write, and write well! In the real world, most druggies unfortunately are pretty dumb. Nevertheless, I found the book riveting and a delight to read. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Meh.
This is an attractive (albeit boring) book...which is the ONLY reason it even got two stars from me. As far as "getting organizing" goes, it's useless. There aren't really any creative suggestions that can be tweaked for your space, and I don't think the book even really addresses storage, or organization for that matter. It looks nice on the coffee table in my livingroom, which I must say is more organized than the contents of this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Terence Conran Storage
As a fan of TCs 'Ultimate House Book' and 'Bathrooms' titles I was looking forward to a similar standard of book but was left somewhat deflated. Granted, storage is not the sexiest aspect of interior design but this book is situated firmly in the ranks of common sense and failed to ignite the imagination. It is, however, very practical if approaching the issue of storage without having given it any previous though whatsoever. If you have an established interest in the area of interiors you will have come across all of this before. The presentation is as usual excellent but it does not achieve the inspiring standard of the aformentioned titles.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best from Conran

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome AutoCAD reference and Training manual
The AutoCAD and its Applications book is an awesome book! I used the book when going through college and learning AutoCAD. It was so well written that I went through two of the same version as the first was worn out!!Since then I have used the book in my own classes teaching at the local community college and it has proved to be an invaluable resource. The chapters are organized in a logical progession for learning AutoCAD starting at the basics and working your way through to Advanced Topics. This is a GREAT book and I highly recommend it for learning AutoCAD there is no other match.

I am not sure why the previous reviewer thinks the book is loaded with mistakes. I have not found any problems outside of the occasional grammatical slip but what book doesn't have that? I would say take into consideration that reviewers complaints about mistakes when he obviously cannot even determine when to use the proper there, their, or they're when ranting about the book. My suggestion is if you are going to rant about mistakes in a book you should make sure that you understand when to use the proper There, their and They're.

1-0 out of 5 stars AutoCRAP and it Applications Basic and Advanced
AutoCad and its applications basic and advanced is a hot mess. DON'T BUY. The books are loaded with mistakes, tutorials that don't even work, missing exersize files on there student website. These books will just leave you feeling confused. The exersizes and problems at the end of chapter are just thrown together with very little thought. Really disapointing!

incredible work. the land exlored here is not made of soil, but does lie somewhere between what we have deemed "faery" and what has been labeled "alien" or extraterrestial"

there are some eerie resonances here. see who in this gallery of the transWyrd is drawn to you. or vice versa...

:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Can we access other realities through imagination?
Monica Szu-Whitney is a psychic painter who allows images to arise from the psyche. She then draws or paints these images in a process she calls "tunneling". Gary Whitney, Monica's partner, assists in her inner voyages and records her experiences. The book presents 24 such inner journeys in story form. With 32 color drawings and a black-and-white drawing for each chapter, the art is unusual -- both haunting and compelling. Are these true life forms from other dimensions? Monica's encounters suggest we can receive healing techniques, wisdom and entertainment from these interdimensional beings.
The Whitney's work validates the imagination as a tool for accessing material buried in the individual and collective unconscious. She goes into the deeper psychic layers, the substrata of her consciousness, draw out and paints these images.
The book raises the question of whether humans can access other realities and other dimensions. Can imagination coupled with will bring us into contact with other intelligences in the universe? Whether you agree or not, the concept is intriguing and likely to inspire others to plumb their psychic depths.
This book deepened my trust in the power of imagination. The poet William Blake referred to imagination as another sensory organ. Read this book, and you'll never scoff at imagination as a trifling capacity. It can be a portal into wonderful and mysterious realms.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very special and important book - I highly recommend it!
Monica's portraits are very special and I feel that they are very important at this point and time in Earth's evolution. Each portrait seems to radiate such love, peace, and healing, and yet are thought provoking and stimulating. While some people may be challenged and confronted by some of the beings that have been drawn, I have always been fascinated and attracted to them. Some of these portraits radiate such happiness and delight that one cannot help but smile.I feel that the portraits, especially of the inter-dimensional beings, help to heal flawed perceptions of what is "normal", transmuting prejudice and expanding one's consciousness by expanding and breaking the paradigms of normality and of what constitutes intelligent life forms and what it means to be "human".The stories of these beings are fascinating and well-written and are filled with ideas and notions supported by the hyper-dimensional model of physics. These portraits, I feel, are preparing us for the future, forcing us to not only think globally, but to think universally.

Monica's story is compelling and is an inspiration to us all.She is a master of her craft.

I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

In this volume, Terence E. Fretheim seeks to introduce the Pentateuch to modern readers, stressing its continuing capacity to speak a word of--or about--God. The two chapters of Part One provide an orientation to the critical study of the Pentateuch and present a proposal for reading the Pentateuch in terms of its rhetorical strategy. That strategy, Fretheim argues, is designed in such a way as to have a certain effect upon its readers, most basically to shape their faith and life. The five chapters of Part Two focus on the individual books that comprise the Pentateuch. ... Read more

Product Description
Some critics in England and France have long maintained that British director Terence Fisher, whose films dominated world markets in the 1950s and 60s, was one of the greatest directors of fantasy films in history. Since his death in 1980, Fisher's reputation has grown from relative obscurity and his influence on the development of the modern horror film has been widely recognized. However, Fisher's importance should not be limited to the context of the fantasy and horror film genres. His films should also be recognized as expressions of his generalizations about human spirituality.

This critical study of Fisher's films begins with an introduction that provides biographical information on his film career, summaries of all of the films he directed and examples of his impact on contemporary cinema. All of Fisher's films are analyzed in terms of their Christian and religious themes as well as their mythical sources. Chapters are devoted to Fisher's work on the subjects of Frankenstein, Dracula, curses (The Devil Rides Out), the ancient goddess (The Gorgon), the divided self (The Man Who Could Cheat Death) and the redeemer hero (The Stranglers of Bombay). The concluding chapter analyzes the role and influence of Biblical narratives in Fisher's films. Also included is a filmography; the work is fully indexed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a Wonderful Book!
Review of
Paul Leggett, Terence Fisher. Horror, Myth and Religion
McFarland & Co., Inc.: Jefferson, NC and London, 2002

by The Very Rev. Dr.theol. Paul F. M. Zahl, Dean
Cathedral Church of the Advent (Episcopal)
Birmingham, Alabama

Paul Leggett's Terence Fisher: Horror, Myth and Religion is a must for two categories of readers. And there are a lot of people in both categories.
The first category is fans of horror and sci-fi films. For all in the first group, Terence Fisher was a giant. His haunting productions for Britain's Hammer Films left an indelible impression on the millions who first saw them. They live on, on video and DVD, and on television every week, everywhere. Fisher's Draculas and Frankensteins, werewolves and phantoms were in technicolor. They were pure Gothic and presented as "A" films even though they were "B" films. Horror fans can now learn about their hero-auteur at depth.
The second category of readers for Dr. Leggett's book is fans of Christian fantasy and allegory. Many Christians are interested in popular culture, specifically in finding themes like redemption and sacrifice and atonement within movies and art. This is why Stephen King, for example, in fiction or Abel Ferrara in cinema attract interest from within the religious community. Not to mention Tolkien, and more Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings phenomenon has been fueled in part by adolescents coming to the material out of Christian interests and background.
Terence Fisher was a Christian apologist! That is not all he was, but Christian themes of love's conquest in cruciform imagery abound in his movies. Christian images are everywhere you look, from Curse of the Werewolf (1960) to The Devil Rides Out (1968), and before, and after.
Because Dr. Leggett is a theologian and a pastor, as well as a fan, he is able to make the connection between the world in which we actually live now and the preoccupations of the films of Terence Fisher. Leggett is a classic Christian-nothing New Age here!-and he is one who has been fascinated by these films since childhood. His book links the dark and deep struggles of the child in all of us, with a master storyteller in film; and sets the whole on the big screen of cosmic drama.
This is a wonderful book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Seminal work
All credit to Paul Leggett, a Presbyterian pastor no less, for producing this seminal study of the religious and mythical themes in Terence Fisher's films. He argues convincingly, from a canon including most of the significant horrors he made for Hammer, that the mythological worldview of Fisher's films is intrinsically Christian. Leggett examines the fundamental motifs in the films and reveals an underlying story of the battle between good and evil, seen in terms of the traditional Christian symbols of the fall, the cross etc. He provides a good sense of the development of the horror film, and laments how the classical themes of redemption have been replaced with an almost nihilistic worldview (see, eg. my review of Rosemary's Baby).

Leggett's work is important for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is the work of a committed Christian. Christian (or at least evangelical) attitudes to film, in particular horror film, have been ambivalent at best, and Leggett's work, if it gains the popularity it deserves, may challenge Christians to rethink the issues. Secondly, it contributes to a debate about Fisher's work that has probably only really emerged in the last couple of decades, as his right to be seen as more than a maker of B-standard horror movies has been acknowledged. Thirdly, it is the only work (to my knowledge) that examines the religious, mythical and, in particular, specifically Christian, themes in Fisher's work. As such, the book has opened up a new part of the debate.

On the negative side, I would mention a few things. Firstly, the author has a tendency, no doubt because of his own faith, to paint Fisher in evangelical, or at least very conservative/orthodox, stripes, perhaps assuming too close a correlation between the imagery and mythology he chose to structure his stories around and the actual content of Fisher's personal faith. Secondly, at just under two hundred pages (including illustrations), it feels rather brief, and I am sure there is much more the author could have said--and indeed, should say, hopefully in a later volume. Thirdly, I wish the stills had been chosen with more attention to how they amplify or illustrate Leggett's interpretation of Fisher's films, perhaps noting lighting, positioning, imagery, angles etc... ... Product Description
The Adelphoe (The Brothers) of Terence is a Latin adaptation of a comedy of the same name by the Greek comic playwright Menander. The theme of the play is the perennially interesting question of the relationship between the generations and the proper way to bring up a son. In the introduction Mr Martin considers Terence in the context of Roman comedy generally and discusses the background of the Adelphoe. There is also a section on metre and scansion and a short analysis of the textual tradition. The full and detailed commentary, besides elucidating the text, seeks at all times to help the reader to understand the work as a play to be enjoyed. The edition is intended for use by students at school and university and for anyone wishing to read and appreciate the play in the original. ... Read more

Prior to his 2007 Whitney Museum exhibition, Canadian-born, New York-based artist Terence Koh (originally known as Asian Punk Boy) quipped, "Being in the Whitney is like having this huge magnifying glass shining on you, if I fail, I fail spectacularly in front of the whole art world. That in a way relieves the pressure, because either way, the splatter will be beautiful." As Asian Punk Boy, Koh became known for his perversely cute website and zines infused with a queer punk sensibility. Published concurrently with the exhibition Terence Koh: Love for Eternity at Spain's Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Castilla y Leon (MUSAC), this is the artist's first substantial monograph; it includes an in-depth interview with international curator-critic Hans Ulrich Obrist and essays by Bill Arning, Curator of the MIT List Visual Arts Center, MUSAC Chief Curator Agustin Perez Rubio and artist Cerith Wyn Evans. ... Product Description

The secret war between vampires and humans escalates and the world will never be the same again…

Christopher Jude Miller – fully grown and still human – has returned to New York to seek answers about his past.  It is there he meets Joie, a young woman connected to his past, and falls into a twisted love triangle. He and Joie also realize that the magical forces that made both their lives possible have unexpected side effects, as they discover that united they have abilities neither knew of before - including the power to cure vampires.

Created after the incidents that brought in the National Guard to contain the vampire zombie plague on the Lower East Side, Clean Slate Global is a covert ops organization formed to rid the world of vampires, run by ex-deputy mayor Jonathan Richmond.  But Richmond unleashes an ancient evil with darker motives.  It plots to use Christopher and Joie’s power to eliminate all vampires from the Earth…with the exception of its own new and improved indestructible army of the undead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bloody Good
A marvelous sequel to Bite Marks, with a bit more action and suspense. Most of the characters from Bite Marks return, now twenty years older, and their backgrounds and personas are now fleshed out. A quicker read than the first book, perhaps because the characters are more familiar. Never having an interest in the genre before, I am now hooked on Taylor's work, and look forward to his next book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blood War in Manhattan
Terence Taylor, I am scared of you! Excellent! I have read BITE MARKS and BLOOD PRESSURE: A Vampire Testament.Mr. Taylor has created a world that makes you wonder-Do vampires really exist in New York? "BLOOD PRESSURE" picks up where "BITE MARKS" ends. Now, that Chrisopher has grown up and moved back to New York, his life has unraveled in BLOOD! No PRESSURE Mr. Taylor but "hurry" with that third installment.I'm getting THIRSTY.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Winner By Terence Taylor!
Wow!Terence Taylor has done it again!I loved-Loved-LOVED this book!!!!After downloading the Kindle version of BLOOD PRESSURE I couldn't stop tapping to the next page.It was so cool to see what all the old characters are up to, I especially am rooting for Steven and Lori. For now, I anxiously await the next installment to see how this excellent trilogy ends!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Sequel You Can Sink Your Teeth Into
Christopher Jude Miller returns to New York City after 20 years of growing up with an adoptive family. Back in 1987, something happened that destroyed his family, and now he's determined to find out just what that was. The only people standing in his way: Perenelle de Marivaux, a vampire whose attempts to maintain the peace between humans and vampires shattered on that fateful night; Stephen Johnson and Lori Martin - the two who found Christopher and know much more than they are willing to tell him; their daughter Joie, who seems to have a strange connection to Christopher that neither can explain.

On the opposite side, thanks to those same events, a new government agency, known as Clean Slate Global, arises from the aftermath of those events in 1987 with one goal: eradicate all vampires. In order to infiltrate the vampire hub, they make a deal with Claire St. Claire, a vampire who had been imprisoned for 50 years. She, however, has plans of her own, using Clean Slate to wreak vengeance of the Vampire who imprisoned her, Perenelle de Marivaux.

In "Blood Pressure", author Terence Taylor creates a sequel that can stand on its own. He strikes a balance between giving too much information and not giving enough, whetting the appetite with just enough information to keep the story moving along while making the reader want to find a copy of Bite Marks (the first novel) and read it just to see what happened. But it isn't necessary in order to enjoy the second story.

Having read the first book, I enjoyed seeing how the characters familiar to me deal with the changing times: Stephen and Lori's relationship issues, Perenelle having to once again go through the process of making her older self die so her human neighbors don't become suspicious, and Adam Caine - Perenelle's vampiric "offspring" - re-inventing himself as a doctor to gain access to fresh victims. But more focus is paid on the new characters, including Christopher and Joie, whose mysterious connection plays a major role in the storyline; the back story of Claire St. Claire and her "father" Tom O'Bedlam; Richmond and Lopez from clean Slate Global; and my favorite, the inclusion of Zora Neale Hurston into the mix.

Her back story involving the fictitious Turner Creed, as love interest and inspiration for Their Eyes Were Watching God added a nice touch and tied the novel to history. Taylor used this story to introduce the Harlem Renaissance and it's influence on many of the characters within Blood Pressure. And for me, it reminded me of her story collection Mules and Men, when she traveled the Southern States, recording the folk tales and stories of African-Americans and dabbling in their mysticism and mythologies.

Of course, what would any horror story be without monster -- this time in the form of Tom O'Bedlam, a vampire not quite right in the head, but with a devious plan to use Christopher to take over the world. Talk about evil incarnate....

From beginning to end, "Blood Pressure" does a fine job of building tension, leaving you on the edge of your seat, your mouth watering in anticipation of what happens next. So hurry with that next book, Mr. Taylor!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome to Blood World
Terence Taylor once again sets out into (bloody?) waters that lesser writers would and should steer clear of. Has any supernatural creature gotten more pub in the last century than the vampire? I think not. With a rash of new TV shows, movies, comics, etc, the Vampire is seeing a revival that only comes along every other year. If I've set this up properly then you should understand that I'm kind of sick of Vampires. Which is what makes this new installment in Taylor's Vampire Testament series such a triumph.

Picking up 20 years after the first installment, BITE MARKS, Taylor wastes no time getting into swift narrative that combines the supernatural with anti-terrorism, horror with tech. And, though it's two decades later, it feels like almost no time has passed (in a good way) as we continue this tale of Lori, Steven, Christopher, and the ever looming Vampire Society cohabitating with the humans of New York. There have been major life changes for all involved, and bigger changes to come. And this writer's talent is big enough to take us there and leave us breathless.

Bottom line: If you don't like your vampires sparkling in the sunlight and brimming with teenage angst. This one's for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Intro to Autocad
Although I've learned a great deal from Autodesk's Lynn Allen through her bi-monthly videos, this is a great book to take with you, read, and try out the examples using your Autocad software. An excellent tool for the classroom.

4-0 out of 5 stars good
thanks, the book got here in good conditions but the corners were a little tilted.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's better than nothing. But just barely.
While this text covers a great deal of information and is required at community colleges it's as exciting to read as drug warning labels. And you practically need a rossetta stone to drag the pertinent information out of the chapters.

The student CD included requires the student to have AutoCad loaded on their computer to access it. So you need to invest another $800 or so in a seperate computer program in order to access the student disk at home. Otherwise...well, it makes a cool drink coaster.

I only acquired this book because it was required for my class. I hardly even cracked the cover. I used my 2004 copy of "Mastering AutoCad" by George Omura and highly recommend that instead. I only refered to Shumaker's book when encountering a 2005 upgrade (of which there aren't many).

Omura's book has an easy to use index, goes beyond "the basics" and includes a disk with a trial version of ACAD that you can use for at least 30 days. I could look up commands and subjects in the index, breeze through the overview and be functional in minutes.
Shumaker's book is adequate if you have zero ACAD experience, the patience of Job to trudge through the text, no other options or someone is offering to just GIVE it to you. Otherwise and for personal use, go for Omura.

Oh, and don't forget, AutoCad has a HELP menu (F1) if you happen to be stuck for an answer during a test.

3-0 out of 5 stars AutoCAD Book
In the book there are purple boxes with commands in them that are really helpful.

3-0 out of 5 stars lots of info: probably in there somewhere
while this book appears to exhaustively document the program, I could rarely find helpful information when I ran into specific problems while using the program. I'm currently looking for a book with better clarity andorganization ... Read more
