Terrible Edition!!
This book is formatted horribly. Chapters start in the middle of a page the way sentences should. Sentences are broken up and choppy. It's a shame that a book meant to guide people on writing techniques is done this bad in Kindle edition. Hopefully Amazon puts one out that is done right, because this book is an essential one to own, and I'm tired of carrying around my beat up paperback copy. ... Read more

Formatting problems abound, but the price is right.
At $2.95, I can't complain too much about this edition of Elements of Style.For those familiar with the print version, you know the book is short, but packed full of useful information, particularly for beginners.The problem with the Kindle version is the errors in format: Letters, missing; words, cut short; examples, out of order.Under rule sixteen, Keep Related Words Together, the sample sentences are a mess.The sample problem sentence follows: "Wordsworth, in the fifth book of The Excursion, gives a minute description of this church."Here is the corrected version of the sentence as shown in the book."In the fifth book of The Excursion, Wordsworth gives a description of a minute this church."Huh?Another incorrect sentence in the book says, "Cast iron, when treated in a Bessemer converter, is changed into steel."The corrected sentence reads, "By treatment converter, cast iron is changed into steel. in a Bessemer."If someone has enough grammar knowledge to see what the corrections should have been, this digital version makes an acceptable version of the print book.Just be aware of these issues before you buy. ...
