3-0 out of 5 stars Thrilling ! by AK from North Boulevard
I read a story called The Beast from the East, a Goosebumps book by R.L. Stine. There are many characters in this book like Ginger "she's the sensible one", Nat the tree climber, Pat Nat's brother, and of course the beasts. They get lost in the weird part of the woods, and then they meet the beasts. They have to play the beasts game, and if they lose just trust me they don't want to lose. I give these book three stars because it wasn't scary enough. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good thrill.

Then when they go exploring they get lost in a weird part of the jungle. The grass is yellow, the bushes are purple and the trees are like skyscrapers. Then they meet the beasts tall blue furry creatures with small eyes. They want Ginger to play a game like Tag, except the losers get eaten.

Stand on the free lunch square and you get eaten. Get yourself wrapped around by snakes and thats double snake eyes you get twenty points. If you get bitten you get awarded a triple hisser which is worth sixty points.Touch the penalty rock and you get thrown a cage to be eaten later. 5-0 out of 5 stars The First And One Of The Best
I am currently reading the first edition and I think it is worth your time to read. the reason i picked this book up in the first place is that it was the first book in the goosebumps series and i have to say i'm glad i did. this book legitimately scared me in some parts making it one of most suspenseful books i have ever read. overall i think this is one of the best books in the goosebumps series.

4-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK!!!!
THIS BOOK IS PRETTY COOL BEING THAT IM 19 YEARS OLD LOL WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I DIDNT READ SOME OF HIS BOOKS REASON WHY SOME OF THE PICTURES ON THE COVER FRIGHTENED ME AS A BOY AND NOW IM NOT SOO SCARED TOO LOOK AT THE BOOK AND READ IT.
THE BOOK IS A GREAT PAGE TURNER THAT WILL KEEP GOING AND GOING LIKE THE ENERGIZER RABBIT, I RECIEVED THE BOOK TODAY AND READ AT 9:00 P.M. FINSHED THE WHOLE BOOK IN AN HOUR THE BOOK SCARED ME SOME SINCE I WAS UPSTAIRS ALONE WITH THE LIGHTS OFF WITH ONLY THE LAMP ON TO SET THE MOODE, THE NEXT ONE I PROBABLY WILL READ IS THE CURSE OF CAMP COLD LAKE!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A quiet new neighbourhood...
Amanda and Josh think their new home is haunted. Amanda is sure she sees a boy in their house from time to time, and both she and her brother hear whispers. Their dog is unhappy about the new place. He was never an aggressive dog but now he growls and barks at everyone. The kids they meet in the new town are weird and hard to get.
Amanda and Josh have no idea how weird they are.

A great book about a very unforgettable place.

5-0 out of 5 stars a book that will make you scream
I thought that Welcome to Dead House was a very scary book. The book is about two kids, Amanda and Josh, who move to the town of Dark Falls. In the town, there are living-dead kids, who try to kill Amanda and Josh. They do not succeed.I recommend this book for all kids over eight. The reason that I do not recommend it for younger kids is that it might scare them too much.If you like this book, you'll like the whole Goosebump series.-JULIAN

5-0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia at it's best
Loved it, R.L. Stine was one of my favorite authors growing up. His short chapters with catchy and surprising endings left me gobbling up these books. These books all touched on subjects that were very kid-interesting, and I hope there will be another author like this for my kids one day. Wish I didn't sell this series in a garage sale. . . ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I didn't know whether to like or dislike this book after reading it
Synopsis: Joanna Collier wants to get rid of her boyfriend Dex because he is not the same status and class as her. She tells him to meet her at the mall for their date, but stands him up, and watches him squirm from a distance. She enjoys tormenting him and even brags to her friend Mary about it. Later that night, Dex enters her room through her window, angry that she stood him up, and tells her to come with him and his friend Pete to the Promontory, a make out spot in the cliffs. Joanna reluctantly agrees and goes with him. When they reach the cliffs, Dex jokes around by jumping at the edge of the cliff. Unfortunately, the ground cracks beneath him, and Dex falls off the cliff. Pete screams at Joanna to help him find Dex, but Joanna takes her car and starts driving, not looking back. Disoriented with thoughts in her mind as to what she should do, she doesn't realize a vehicle coming her way, and gets into an accident.

Months later, Joanna recovers and gets back to her normal life, with her new boyfriend Shep. However, as soon as she arrives from the hospital, Dex comes to her room that night and tells her that he was also in an accident but recovered. Feeling guilty for what happened, she decides to go out with Dex, but notices something strange about him. She notices him looking pale, and standing stiffly, but thinks that he has not fully recovered from the accident. Is Dex recovering, or has he come back from the dead as a ghost to get his revenge on Joanna?

Review: This was such a strange story. I didn't know whether to like it or dislike it after I read it. I must admit, there were some twists to the story which I didn't expect at all, which made me think that Stine was rather creative in some parts. I enjoyed the climax of the book because I did not see that coming.

On the other hand, I hated Joanna. She's stuck up and self-centered, which is why I didn't feel anything for her, even when all those awful things were happening to her. She likes Dex one minute, hates him the next. She enjoys having Shep and Dex as her boyfriends and loves telling Mary about it. I was rooting for Dex and hoping that he would get rid of Joanna once and for all. Well, at least she realized her mistakes in the end, but it still doesn't make me like her.

4-0 out of 5 stars Boyfriend problems
Dex was devastated when Joanna broke up with him. Then he died. Joanna doesn't take it too hard, boys are just toys to her. Then Dex returns from the dead...

Another great read from Stine with a nice twist to its ending

5-0 out of 5 stars Good
This was the first R. L. Stine book I ever read after the Goosebumps books. The plot was interesting, and the high-school-age characters are a little more realistic than the ones in some of his other teenage-audience books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Shocker
My mom had first got this book for my younger sister from the library. I was curious and I hadnt read R.L Stine since I was a young girl(I grew up reading his books)so i decided to go ahead and read it. What a fast read! I finished in 30 minutes! This book has so many twists and turns, it really keeps you guessing. I absolutely loved the ending : Joanne recieved exactly what she deserved for being such a cruel person. If I had known Dex in real life, I would've dated him, he seemed like such an awesome guy!
I highly recommend this book, if you want a book that puzzles you, scares you, and throws you onto a windy rolar coaster, this is the book for you!

I now want to read R.L. Stine's The Girlfriend =)

5-0 out of 5 stars Captivating

3-0 out of 5 stars 6 out of 10 stars: R.L. Stine's Eye of the Fortuneteller
I remember in elementary school when we had weekly trips to the library, we'd always look at the shelf that held all of R.L. Stine's classics. The Goosebumps series --gosh, they caused a ruckus! We little first graders would all be standing in a lopsided line, waiting for the librarian to check our books out for us, and while the long wait, we'd glance by the "horror" bookshelf. I don't think they were much too popular, so they were located on a bottom shelf; however, at three-and-a-half feet standing, they were right at eye level for us. Perfect.

"You know what the scariest thing ever is?" one boy taunted me. "Reading one of these books. They will haunt you forever."

"So?" I said. The covers looked pretty scary, but being a book freak even then, I found it hard to believe that a book could actually scare you.

"In the dark," he continued. "These books are scary if you read them in the dark."

I was not impressed. First of all, everyone knew that you couldn't read a book in the dark unless it had glow-in-the-dark text. Second of all, the dark never really had adverse affects on me as a child, so to me, reading the book in the dark would have been the same as reading one on the sun.

Nevertheless, the fact that the horror novels could supposedly haunt me forever was not a very appealing idea. I never picked up one of the books, and never had thought about it, until I was given the opportunity to review Eye of the Fortuneteller by R.L. Stine. It isn't Goosebumps, but it comes pretty darn close...

Blurb: Who's afraid of the ghosts of Fear Street?
Not Kelsey Moore. She's lived on Fear Street all her life, and she's not afraid of anything.
Until she meets Madame Valda --a strange old woman who says she can see into the future. She tells Kelsey that only fools are fearless. Kelsey just laughs.
But she isn't laughing when she climbs into bed -- and finds it full of disgusting sand crabs. Or when she goes for a swim --and finds the ocean swarming with giant jellyfish! All of Kelsey's worst fears are coming to life!
Has Madame Valda doomed Kelsey to live in fear forever?

The only plausible way this book can be considered a horror novel takes me back to first grade, when even all the boys were afraid to read R.L. Stine. The only plausible way this book would eternally terrify a person, is if they were six years old.

The plot is simple:

1. Kelsey and her cousin, Drew encounter a creepy gypsy.
2. Kelsey and her cousin, Drew anger the creepy gypsy.
3. Kelsey and her cousin, Drew are cursed by the creepy gypsy; they get lost and chased by a rabid dog.
4. Kelsey has hallucinations about the only things in the world she is afraid of: sand crabs.
5. Kelsey has hallucinations about the only OTHER things in the world she is afraid of: horseflies and jellyfish.

That's really the "scary" elements of the story; but for someone like me who cannot imagine a sand crab being scary, it was hard to associate.
Being a children's novel, it did end happily (Kelsey's curse is lifted by some gypsies who aren't quite as evil as the first one she encountered), but I totally saw it coming. Children's stories never end tragically, but that factor probably also made the story less horrific too.

Eye of the Fortuneteller was a quick, I-should-be-doing-something-productive-but-instead-I-am-entertaining-myself read. I read it in about twenty minutes, as the there are only 105 pages and the font size is about 16.
I enjoyed taking a break from the really dramatic genre that makes you think too much (we're studying Dickens in class right now...ugh), but having already graduated from elementary school, this book wasn't really for me.

Rating: 6 hearts- Would recommend to people.

Thanks for reading!

Are you afraid of ghosts?

Kelsey Moore is not afraid of anything, until she meets Madame Valda, and Kelsey laughs. When Kelsey comes home it looks like she is scared because of the sand crabs in her bed. Next, she goes to the swimming pool, Now there were jellyfish in the swimming pool. Has Madame Valda doomed Kelsey?

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I am almost 16 and I enjoyed this book. It was kinda creepy with all the insects in it. I really enjoyed the book and I feel that it is one good book for children ages 9- 12.

5-0 out of 5 stars I tink this is one of the best books i have ever read.
It gives you alot to tink about as thy goes from chapter to chapter. It always makes you feel really interested well it makes me feel like that anyway. One of my favourite bits is when Buffy gets cursed and when she goesin the swimming pool and finds her worst nightmares jellyfish inside.Iwouldgive this book a good 5 star for brilliant ideas.I know the other rewiewpeople think it's crap but I personaly don't tink so, they just don't knowhow to write reviews which gets me angry.I am very surprised R.L.STINEdidn't make this book into a Goosebumps book.I used to tink dat Roald Dahlwas my favourite but R.L.STINE has taken over, his stories are brilliantand I really enjoy them I mean some ofthem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds similar
I haven't read this book yet, but i rescently finished Raven's Gate. It sounds like Anthony Horowitz literally copied almost the whole storyline for Raven's Gate. I luved Raven's Gate so i gotta give this a 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mysteriously Outrageous!
I am a huge fan of the Alex Rider series so I was more than eager to read this new explosive series when I heard of it's release. I bought and read the book all in one day so I got all the action at once, therefore my head is still reeling.

Contrary to popular belief Devil's Doorbell isn't very much Alex Rider at all. In true Horrwitz style the Hero is good looking, strong and very likeable but different and mysterious.
It tells the story of an orphan boy called Martin who was caught up in the wrong crowd and found in the wrong place. As a result instead of being thrown into juvy was placed in a new project called LEAF (basically where you are sent to a remote foster home and made to work to get rid of your attitude). It is here that Martin finds himself under the rule of most twisted and corrupt villan I've ever read. In his new and highly strange country life, Martin finds himself thrown into darkness and mystery as the strange village and its inhabitants take an uncanny interest in him. From here Martin finds himself on a rollercoaster of action, dark magic, mystery, darkness and evil.

In a brilliantly written, intriguing, action packed plot, Horrwitz unveals the secrets of the Raven's Gate and the power Martin never knew he had. Through stranges dreams, unexplained deaths and a sense of unease Martin discovers the secrets behind his strange new town and the people inside it.

From the very first chapter you are hooked and the fast paced aaction of the book keeps you reading to the last page.

Although I loved the book and would certainly recommend it I must warn you that it does contain some dark content. This isn't your average 'Harry Potter' it is dark magic and at times you could describe it as satanic. I personally would never normally read such a book but it is written well and the plot is so good that by the end you don't care about it.

I would recommend this book to teenagers and adults who don't mind the main character being a kid. It is suited to any sex that loves a good adventure but I assume that it is aimed more towards boys than girls (even though I personally loved it). All in all it is a fantastic adventure story with unbelieveable twists that make you keep reading. Once again Horrwitz has created a series that leaves you pining for the next book. Two thumbs up!!

4-0 out of 5 stars fun horror-fantasy
A young adult horror-fantasy, well-characterized, with unexpected but welcome bursts of humor, a tight, fast-moving plot and excellent writing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Witchcraft.rituals, and a great book.
