Religious, poetic genius
When I first read the English metaphysical poets of the early 17th century, they knocked my socks off.They had a similar effect on T.S. Eliot, although he may have had a more refined way of expressing his impressions--see his masterpiece, "The Varieties of Metaphysical Poetry."

It can be difficult to find a good little introduction to the 17th century priest and poet George Herbert, but Sheldrake's book fills the gap.It describes Herbert's spirituality as a way of living and a network of relationships rather than a set of abstract theories.His spirituality also concerns all aspects of human life, in a way that nowadays would be described as holistic.Recommended for its fascinating insight into the Anglican tradition as well as Christianity as a whole. ...
