5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best science fiction horrors out there
This is one of my favourite horror novels, although technically it's three horror novels, and I have read it over three times at least.Although he has a habit of repeating his characters in each of these three novels, the premises are distinct enough that it's highly forgiveable. Each premise is disturbing, richly thought out, and well worth the time you spend on it.The scenes are well-described, the dialogue well-written and it's basically a brilliant read.

I could tell you the premises, but I don't want to spoil one of the best parts of this, so I'll just say that one of them bears a passing resemblance to the movie Virus and one involves mutations. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hawk and Fisher Face Politics
This is the second volume of the adventures of Hawk and Fisher and closely follows the first.Hawk and Fisher are married, members of the Guard, honest, and very good fighters.Unfortunately their honesty tends to get them assigned to undesirable positions.

As an election looms, Hawk and Fisher are assigned as bodyguards to a Reform candidate in a district that could cause a change in power on the council.Together they have face vampires, werewolves, and many other evils, but are they ready for the political arena?

Their charge has made a lot of enemies and although sorcery is forbidden in elections, the opposition won't let that stop them.As the election nears, Hawk and Fisher must face deceit, treachery, sorcery, mercenaries, kidnaping, love and dirty tricks galore. To make matters worse, something is stirring on the Street of the Gods.

A nicely woven story that shows how politics can be costly even for good causes. We learn a little more about Hawk and Fisher's past as they are relatively new to the city of Haven. While not quite a mystery like the first book in the series, this is still a wonderful tale and it follows the first quite well. ... His mission: Locate and open the Vaults of the Sleepers on the ghost planet Grendel and subjugate the creatures found there. But the aliens buried deep beneath the ashen surface of Grendel are vicious, unnatural killing machines. 5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a combo of what you already read.
If youre a fan of the Nightside, just want to put a warning up for buyers. This book isn't the latest in the series. It's a combination of 2 books(forget which ones) but if you're at the end of the series, it is not a continuation.I thought it was, purchased it because it was not listed as a combination of two stories and ended up wasting money on something I'd already read.Buyer beware on this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Series of book pastiches
Locate Brian Lumley's Necroscope insideStephen King's Crouch End.Use stylistic chunks of Ramsey Campbell, stir in some William Hope Hodgson, season with theology and anti-theology from Robert M. Price, on-demand unexplained teleportation and time travel and anti-heros from pulps old and new. Run Lola Run feedback loops until deus ex machina and spur-of-the-moment bag-of-tricks reality and personality reversals reach "resolution" of a sort. Leave room for constant resurrection of dead characters in that nothing ever receives closure. I understand there are even sequels to Book #6 herein which "solved" all the conundrums of this unreality.

Enough plot holes to drive a herd of shoggoths through, not to mention collective unconscious myths better left sealed off by the Necronomicon.

If you recognize the above, move on folks, nothing to check out here. Harry Dresden is an unreal but sympatehtic detective; Taylor is a self-and-other-destructive agent of change for the worse fooling himself into believing he is a detective: fighter of evil (actually contained inside himself) while believing himself on the side of the righteous and thus fighting his own predetermined nature--and which is really which. Where have we read that one before? Let me count the ways, in exponents of 10.

Although fans of Piers Anthony and the bizarre fantasies of the later Heinlein may like this series. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A riveting story is brought wonderfully to life
Deathstalker is the first of a superbly performed and highly recommended series of abridged science fiction audiobooks by Simon R. Green. Her Imperial Majesty Lionstone XIV has ruled the human Empire with a harsh and ruthless hand. Owen Deathstalker is the unwilling head of his clan and a marked man who must flee an imperial death warrant. He arrives on Misworld for the purpose of building a rebellion that seeks to topple the despot from her throne. This is his destiny and one that he quite like will not survive! Simon Green's riveting story is brought wonderfully to life in a full featured radio drama style production under the direction of Richard Rohan and featuring a cast of talented performers including Richard Rohan, Terence Aselford, Colleen Delany, and Nanette Savard. Other highly recommended episodes in the Deathstalker series include: Friends, Enemies and Allies; Under the Ashes, The City; Hostile Takeover; and The Darkvoid Device.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good beginning
This is volume 1 of a series of books by Simon r. Green concerning Owen Deathstalker.DeathStalker is a Lord in her majesty's empire but now has been outlawed by her and is marked for death. As he makes his escape from his home world where long time friends and employees have turned on him, he meets up with Hazel Dark a clone smuggler who also is outlawd by the empire.the story is full of action and the audio production drew me in.Being a huge Star Wars fan I kept looking around for another sci-fi series to listen to between Star Wars books.I have found such a series with Deathstalker.Although it borrows heavily from the Star Wars universe it nevertheless has its own distinct plot line and characterization.I also might add unlike the Star Wars books these are written with a more adult flavor when it comes to four letter words and sexual encounters.Yet such things are used sparingly throughout the book.I really did like the villain in this one that being Empress Lionstone though Owen Deathstalker is pretty likable as a hero. The book is also filled with colorful characters and non-stop action. It was an exciting book to listen to and I will buy Episode 2 which is coming out soon.Deathstalker is no Star Wars of course but it is a suspense filled space opera all the same. This audiobook contains 2 cassettes it is narrated by a variety of readers and has a few sound effects as well but nothing like a Star Wars audiobook. It is also nicely priced. ...
