Too much loud music and not enough audio.
I was very dissapointed when I played this CD as I was expecting information to be given in the author's voices.Instead, it's a woman's voice but the music drowns her out so that you really can't hear much of what she's saying.

Can't hear what they are saying
I love listening to these speakers on other tapes but was very dissappointed that the music on these tapes was so loud you couldn't hear what they were saying!It was very frustrating.So sad - it would probably by great for reflection and meditation IF you could hear what they were saying.

Should've tested the CD before buying ...
And I would've known that they really mean it when they say "WHISPER". The music is waaayyyy too dominant, the whispers barely audible. I immediately checked Amazon to confirm if others think the same way and sure enough, many do ...

To the producer: I think you have a marvelous idea, too bad the implementation doesn't deliver. Need to improve by: Doing better music, selecting better wordings for the "whispers", and adjusting the balance of words and music better.

This is not an audio book.
It's a sham. None of the supposedly authors' voices are heard.None of the "quotes" are identified. As another reviewer said, "it's annoying". The cheap background music tries to fill in for real substance.

Very educational

brings balance
This book has some ideas and small changes that can make a big difference.The goals are right inline with what I have been looking for. Or course I want to lose weight, but more importantly I want: to bring balance to my body and health.

Not A Diet Book
I love this book!It is not another diet book full of rules.Dr. Chopra brings together the mind, body and spirit approach to eating a healthy diet.If you stuggle with weight this is a good book to get you back on a healhty track.

Great book if you're motivated
I think that if one is very motivated to make the change without going on a diet and actually make the effort to prepare the foods as suggested, it's a good book.I already know what type I was according to Ayurvedic Medicine so there was not much new in here.It's a good introduction.

On Chopra's Creating Health
The volume is recomended for all physicians, pharmacologists, healers, families and philosophers. In a perfect blending of the most ancient and most modern of arts, Dr. Chopra hypothesises the needfulness of complementary holistic medicines, not just the blinded, cold barbarism of atheism presently taught in the west's medical mainstream, wholly subsidized by the Chemical Industry & Global Communism.

Found his points well taken and in comportment with all modern consensus; Medicine has lost its humanity and treats the patient's symptoms rather than causes or better yet, the whole patient's being. I feel the work was revolutionary and helped speed up the renewal of medicine underway.

Communism requires that modern medicine be turned into a dehumanising agent and tool of death; i.e. the "medicine" of Hitler, Stalin, Stanger and the other good sputnicks of 20th century medicine. Chopra calls for a humane unified treatment of disease where the human body is not a random colection of chemicals but a spiritual being as well. This quite agreed with our understanding of man as made in God's own image. Chopra's leadership in addressing many issues is remarkeable, although we found some points at which to disagree or question further. You will hopefully have your worldview expanded by this deep thinker and modern mainstream medical moralist.

Deepak Chopra teaches more than Creating Health
When I first began hearing of Deepak Chopra, I did not think to much of him. A very good friend of mine recommended The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams (based on Creating Affluence) a long time ago but I've yet to read it. So recently I picked up this book on sale from Exclusive Books, a big book store chain in South Africa, like Borders or Barnes & Noble in the USA. Anyway this book has made a tremendous impact on how I view healthy living. Firstly I now see how I can live a healthier life and enjoy more of life. This sounds stupid and simple but I always imagined living healthy to be some kind of effort. And in fact it should be or could be effortless - it all starts with your mind and how you think, and how you feel about yourself. Much of what Deepak Chopra says resonates so much with what is the The Secret (Extended Edition)I am very surprised they did not interview him.

The way this book is written makes it a really quick and easy read. The chapters are short and the whole book is divided into four sections: Health and Disease, Laying the Foundation, Strategies for Creating Health and Toward a Higher Reality: Mediation and Metamorphosis.

Now one of my own internal guides is when I see references to other people I already respect. For example Deepak Chopra quotes Napoleon Hill, several times in the later half the book, and it fits. He also references his friend Dr Wayne Dyer, which I think is the leading light in the West when it comes to manifesting your reality. All this can be bit much to believe for someone who is not familiar with the law of attraction, and changing your physiology by changing your thoughts but give this one a try. It's short, direct, simple to understand and yet it encompasses a vast body of knowledge. And I really enjoyed the fact that he ended off focussing on the new physics as he calls it that was started with Einstein. There is a link between quantum physics and the old paradigms of the East. And you don't even have to read the The Tao of Physics to see it. As they see in these circles believing is seeing not the other way around.

One Big Advertisement
I was very excited reading the first of four sections.It dealt with the mind-body connection and how we, by our very thoughts, influence our own health.For example, if we worry we cause ourselves stress; hormones are produced that can be damaging to the body and can cause disease.If a person can control or relieve the stress, then they are going to be a healthier person.I was so excited by this.I couldn't wait to read the rest of the book to learn what I could do to improve my health.

The fun stopped at the end of the first section.

The second section dealt with "intelligence," which seemed to me like a scientific way of saying "God."

The third section was supposed to give strategies for creating health.Instead, it was filled with vague statements and generalities.One sloppy persuasive technique Dr. Chopra used on multiple occasions to bolster his philosophy was to define a word in a common instance then use the same word in a completely different context but the reader is supposed to infer that the two are equivalent.For example, "Compassion is the quality shown by people who can freely express kindness." Sounds good to me.But then, "All living organisms display behavior patterns that favor the whole over the interests of the individual part.Cells work not for themselves, but for the integrity of the tissue of which they are a part." Then, "I am calling this process the beginning of compassion because each cell 'sympathetically' senses the need of all other cells and automatically responds to it." Then, "No healing can occur without compassion." (Really?)Finally, "[Compassion] heals the healer."

Also, Dr. Chopra repeatedly makes statements as facts without proving them.A perfect example is the above, "No healing can occur without compassion."The reader is just supposed to take Dr. Chopra's word for it.

The last section was the biggest disappointment of all.It was a 50-page advertisement for Transcendental Meditation and Ayurveda.It doesn't give any instruction on TM or Ayurveda, but you will read about how great they both are.

In the book, Dr. Chopra states, "I have been proposing here that perfect health is a reality for anyone, that everyone can expand his share of infinite intelligence."The problem arises when a person, believing this, does everything Dr. Chopra recommends to correct a disease state but fails to effect a cure.Dr. Chopra's philosophy of health cannot fail, but the patient can.

A REFRESHINGLY POSITIVE VIEW OF HEALTH
This little book is full of helpful insights for anyone wondering how to restore or preserve good health. Instead of dwelling on sickness, Chopra shows us how our health is really in our own hands. It is wonderfully refreshing to find a doctor who is not in the business of pushing pills for every ill and ache. Instead of giving us the five-minute look-over and writing a prescription, Dr. Chopra shows us the way to influence our body so it can cure itself. He tell us what we already know, but always wanted to hear from a doctor: That all drugs have side effects and most are expensive. Don't we all want an alternative?

Chopra provides beginning chapters on common illnesses and at times gives typical doctor instructions on what to eat and what to avoid ("don't drink alcohol, even in moderation"). But he moves beyond that, looking inside the sick person and inviting us to look inside ourselves. Our emotions and attitudes affect our bodies, and if we learn to control emotions we can improve our health. Chopra recommends meditation as a means of marshalling our inner resources.

While there must be some limit to this approach to health, there nevertheless is much evidence for its effectiveness. I particularly enjoyed his case histories and anecdotes. Inone case, he admits lying to a patient. She had cancer, but he told her he removed gall stones. She believed him and the cancer went away! He attributes her recovery to her belief that she was well, a manifestation of the placebo effect that no one can explain, other than "mind over matter." Doctors dismiss diseases that go away by themselves by saying the patient is "in remission." But that is not an explanation. Chopra looks at these spontaneous healings as the body's ability to heal itself through the power inside the person, the body's natural intelligence. Intelligence, says Dr. Chopra, is in everything that's alive. I think of Chopra's nature intelligence when I see my cat make a graceful leap from porch to pillar. Very Abstract
Sacred Verses is very abstract. It is a recording of selected ancient Veda literature translated into English. The verses are very simple. I could have just read the Vedas in book form. I do not receive any benefit from listening to the Vedas on CD form other than becoming familiar with the content of the Vedas. I would not have purchased this CD had I had a chance to preview it first. It is useless knowledge unless you have the intent to study the Vedas. I had initially purchased the CD set to learn about the Vedas, but all I have learned is that the Vedas are simplistic prayers (my prayers are more meaningful). There is nothing to really benefit from listening to this CD set.

Chopra, however, presents a clear voice and diction.

There is more talking than I anticipated, I thought it would be recited verses/songs, but is lots of Deepak talking over background music.I have a hard time listening to it, and would not recommend anyone buying it. This is the first Deepak product I have really been disappointed with.

I was disappointed to discover Dr. Chopra's commentary throughout all three CD's.From the write up, I had expected educational commentary in the first parts followed by a more relaxing meditative series.It was not relaxing or meditative because one must listen intently to understand him and the three CD's are almost entirely background music for his educational commentary.Wish I could get my money back. ... Crap
The translations suck, the selection is terrible - all in all, a bad choice. Get the "Essential Rumi" translated by Coleman Barks and John Moyne instead. So much better.

Good to have with the CD
This book is very nice. I have had the CD "a gift of love" where Chopra and Freinds have made music to the recitation of these poems. It is nice to get the book and reading the poems, after listening to the CD for so long. The poems enter you being and grounds themselves in a new way when reading the poems. Sometimes what is said on the CD is a bit tricky, so the book helps here too.

Escaping the prison of my mind....
I listen to this CD on my way to and from work, just about anytime I need to adjust my view of this earthly existence.Each time I listen, his words begin to make sense, and I allow them into my everyday thoughts. I seem to understand NOT to make this incarnation so difficult."You are not in the world, the world is in You.", as Deepak so deeply expresses.

This is a whole new way to experience "life", it is something that must be listened to over and over again to allow his explainations sink into our thoughts.

If I can wrap my mind around quantum physics and visualize how it works and see how it is functioning around us, then you too can read and better yet listen to this CD and gain a perspective on Life that is totally unexpected yet so believable that it makes one smile and say "I get it!!!"

Outside the Box
In "Perfect Digestion" Deepak Chopra just looks at digestion in a different way than most books do.Just as no man is an island, no pancreas is an island either.He sees the digestive process as a small part of all of our bodily functions including internalizing stress, feeling joy or angst, etc.Really, revolutionary.

Reviewing Perfect Digestion
Dr. Chopra brings the reader from the first level of understanding up to self-education and proper use of flavors to enhance digestion. Digestion is the basis of life and ayurveda deals with all three modes: slow, medium, and fast. Can't ask for more in a book. An excellent primer!

Of limited use for anything but IBS
Contrary to the title, and what other reviewers have said, this book spends an inordinate amount of time talking about Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). There's also a discussion about healthy eating in general. However, it's unclear how many of the suggestions even derive from ayurvedic practice, as opposed to just being Chopra's opinions. In any case, there are plenty of Western books about general healthy eating.

The book spends very little time on any other digestive issues. If you have a serious problem such as Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis, you're not going to get much useful information here.

My biggest complaint is that a majority of the book is just a condensed version of Perfect Health. In order to crank out a lot of books quickly, Chopra just rehashes the same information in each book in the series. But since it's an abbreviated version of what's in Perfect Health, it doesn't even stand well on its own.

If you have IBS, then this might be worth reading. Otherwise, it's a waste of time.

Perfect Digestion
Very educational. We need to learn in the west about healthy eating habits, it's important not just what we it but how we eat and how our emotions affect our digestion. It teaches how the cells, organs and other systems in the body are affected by a healthy or a poor digestion system. I've changed some of my habits and already can see and feel the difference. It feels good!!

This writer can't miss
I always enjoy reading Chopra and this book is no exception - the fact my digestion is far from perfect contributed to a particular interest in this topic! In Ayurvedic medicine, most diseases originate as an imbalance inthe digestive system based on the principle that the constant renewal ofevery part of the human physiology is dependent on proper digestivefunctioning.Ayurveda views digestion as the body's means of extractingintelligence from food and then processing it to support the intelligenceinherent in the entire human physiology.Gives new meaning the words"junk food", doesn't it?

Fire in the Heart

Excellent & Inspiring Stories
This is an excellent book replete with spiritually uplifting stories.Dr. Chopra is one of the leading experts on Eastern-Western medical treatments and is a gifted philosopher and writer as well.

With regard to the references to autism in this book, Portia Iversen's son Dov, the boy featured in "Strange Son" and Tito Mukhopadhyay are included in this book.Dov was the young man who was actively listening although he was nonverbal during his early years and Tito Mukhopadhyay was the gifted poet/author who has severe autism.

I want to add that the claim made in this book that people with autism "go inside of themselves" and "don't respond to the outside world" simply isn't true.Dov himself said he was listening at all times and Tito Mukhopadhyay was acutely aware of his environment.

Autism is a sensori-neurobiological condition that affects sensory processing and communication.For individuals with severe autism as these two young men have, communication is severely impacted.People with autism are generally acutely aware of their environments; however, the sensory processing issues can create false impressions.For people on the autism spectrum (and it IS a continuum), sensory input can be confusing and hard to separate into discrete units.When a person is on overload, it is not uncommon for them to appear non/unresponsive.That is when the person is "coming even," trying to tone out the overload and the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Communication is an inherent part of all individuals; it is listening to people on the spectrum that hopefully will create a more tolerant world and put false claims about autism permanently to rest.

Great for the overworked
I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels fatigued all the time. My favorite chapters were chapter 1: Fatigue, energy, and the quantum mechanical body. Chapter 5: Eliminating fatigue by reducing stress and Chapter 7: Chronic fatigue in todays environment.

Why are we so fatigued?
It's not like we ran a marathon, or have jet lag because of a trip from Europe, or been denied food and water. This fatigue is from our normal daily activities. The life we have created makes us feel this way, it keeps us emotionally drained.

When we spend so much of our time on activities that give us very little satisfaction it sucks the life force out of us.

What is the satisfaction level of your daily activities?
The life we have created seldom gives us what we truly want or need.
To find your true wants and needs another good book is, "It's About You" by E. S. Smith

Boundless Energy for Life
Dr Deepak Chopra's handy guide to maximizing one's energy for life, is a valuable resource; with simple strategies to implement in attaining this goal.It's a short, very readable, and most effective program.

Much of a person's feeling of fatigue often starts with the mind, and Chopra gives wonderful advice in overcoming that obstacle.He gives valuable advice on how to reduce stress, and in the process, much of our common maladies should disappear.

When we feel energized, good things usually happen.We're more productive, more creative, and much more fun to hang out with.Those who haven't read this book, who constantly harp on their travails & in the process, bring everyone around them down, would be well-advised to pick up this wonderful book and follow the instructions carefully.You'll thank the good Doctor later.

I was hoping that Chopra might turn over a new leaf, but he's churned out another meaningless book.It would appear he is paid for every time he uses the words 'quantum', 'energy', 'vibration', 'intelligence', and gets a bonus check for using them in vague contexts.Here's an example:
"Underlying our material being there exists what might be called a "quantum mechanical body," which is pure process, energy, and intelligence.Since the quantum mechanical body determines what the quantum body will be like, it is in the quantum mechanical body that we'll find the origins of chronic fatigue."

Trying to distill anything concrete, meaningful, or useful out of this book has only given me boundless quanta of new source of fatigue.

Highly Informative
Deepak Chopra is an excellent teacher.

Not a cure, but a great help

Yo compre el libro en Ingles porque un amigo me lo recomendo, me gusto tanto que lo compre en Espanol para mi madre.
