4-0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable
A nice little collection to read on the patio on a Saturday while soaking up the sun.

5-0 out of 5 stars More Than I Expected
A couple of duds but far more gems make this anthology worth humting down! The collection includes a broad range of riding, and in doing so provides a comprehensive overview of the modern American short story. Would that it might have been entitled, "Short Story Masterpieces," instead of "American Short Story Masterpieces," the few missing giants of the genre might also have been included. But quibbles aside, this collection is a real treat!

5-0 out of 5 stars Literature In Your Pocket
There are so many short story collections, many of which contain some of the same selections represented here. What sets this small paperback volume apart is that it is truly portable and can be carried in a jacket pocket when traveling or commuting. It has remarkable stories by a wide selection of American writers. My favorite is Flannery O'Conner's A Good Man Is Hard To FInd but there are many more. This is a risk free purchase if ever there was one. Eight bucks for some of the best samples of short fiction ever written.

5-0 out of 5 stars just what I ordered
The item was just what I ordered. And it came in reasonable time.I'm am happy with this purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Honesty & Integrity
I was impressed by the ability of the author to combine honesty and sense of humor, despite unpleasant complexed circumstances of the characters. He shares his perspective in a style that immerges the mind in the stories, as well as intriguing the imagination. As an Iranian woman, I relate to the stories that are the reflection of an ever-evloving society, facing enormous challenges and has been in constant pursue of change, adaptation and balance. I highly recommend the book "Man Raymond Carver hastam (My name is Raymond Carver)" to anyone interested in getting a better understanding of the Iranian culture.

4-0 out of 5 stars book of pain and compassion
What makes me like " I Am Raymond Carver", is the fact that it is written with honesty and compassion. The central characters of these stories usually areintellectual middle-class men, stuck in dysfunctional relationships or suffer from post-breakup depression. The writer tries to get to the core of his characters and their traumas. His words reveal the depth of the pain and bitterness in a damaged relationship. I highly recommend this book to those who are interested in modern Persian literature.Man Raymond Carver Hastam (I am Raymond Carver)

4-0 out of 5 stars Western to the hilt
Raymond Carver wrote the introduction to this book, which is fitting, because Carver is the only writer I've read that is as Western as Kittredge.

Still, Kittredge is no Carver.Or maybe he just too young yet.His style is a little too over the top, a little too in love with the cowboy image of the west, of Idaho and Montana. He does not succeed, as Carver does, to bring that rugged and self-sufficient mentality of the Old West fully into the modern era.

The title story and one called "Soap Bear" are heads and shoulders above the rest, and one can hope for more work like this.Reading this work leaves me more than anything hoping that Kittredge will keep working, keep writing short stories, and keep honing this gift.

Product Description
No one questions the fact that men are profoundly influenced by their fathers, but the shape and substance of that influence varies dramatically with the particulars of each family. In this, the first anthology of nonfiction prose to explore this issue in depth, editor Steven Shepherd has collected a diverse and invariably compelling group of narratives about sons and their fathers.

James Baldwin, in his classic "Notes of a Native Son," reflects on the father he barely knew, "partly because we shared, in our different fashions, the vice of stubborn pride." Geoffrey Wolff and Tobias Wolff write of their mutual father from dramatically different perspectives. A second-generation undertaker, Thomas Lynch writes lovingly of burying his father. The acclaimed scholar of African-American culture Henry Louis Gates, Jr., grew up with a father who "was not a race man," and yet their vehement arguments were part of the son's education.

"This is not a collection of horror stories; nor does it devolve into cloying sentimentality. In these true stories, some fathers work six days a week, and some get drunk every morning. Some are role models, and some are monsters. Some stay, and some leave. And their impact is undeniable."
—Teresa Weaver, Atlanta Journal-Constitution

"Our Fathers offers a series of case studies in how the American male of the 20th century eschewed direct communication and affection."
—*Eric Sorensen, Seattle Times ... Read more

Product Description
"Cathedrals" is a volume of work by and about both Raymond Carver (1938-1988) and his wife, writer Tess Gallagher. Carver's famous short story, "Cathedral", is included as well as Gallagher's short story, "Rain Flooding Your Campfire". Also featured is an extensive interview with Tess Gallagher as well as a bibliography and album of scarce photographs.

Twenty years ago, on a train, Raymond Carver wrote "Cathedral" - a story based on the time his wife Tess's blind friend came to visit them in their home in Syracuse, New York. The same episode also inspired "Rain Flooding Your Campfire" by Tess Gallagher. The birth, Fate and complete versions of these two short stories are a tribute to contemporary literature.

Cathedrals is imported from Italy and the text is in English and Italian. ... Read more
