2-0 out of 5 stars Love the book, but do not buy this edition!
The people who printed this book stink! The punctuation, spacing, and spelling are off and everything is just jumbled together.Let me give you an example from page 6 (which is copied exactly from the book, 1st new paragraph)"As to his teeth, he haid platinum crowns on his left side and gold ones on his tight...crooked sort of mouth.Clean-shav-n. Dark hair.right eye black, left ieye for some reason green."

This kind of crap continues throughout this edition of the book, but I highly recommend the book (published by anyone else), the writing and story are excellent. ... Read more

Zoyka's Apartment captures the exotic image and the real heartbeat of an amazing city at a fascinating moment: Moscow in the Soviet equivalent of the roaring 20's, in a pause between the cyclone of the revolution and the inferno of the purges, a window of desperate opportunity. Tremendous danger mingles with heady excitement, as everyone scrambles to get together as many rubles as possible and escape to Paris before the inevitable crackdown.

How will smart, bold, practical Zoyka manage to get enough rubles in a hurry? Her only assets are a large apartment and an even larger imagination... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Zoyka's Apartment
As an actor, I fell completely in love with Zoyka's Apartment. Bulgakov has an amazing capacity for imagery. The characters are vivid and enthralling. His sense of comedy remains unsurpassed by the writers oftoday. I highly recommend this hysterically ludicrous play to any fan ofBulgakov. You may also enjoy reading anything by Kurt Vonnegut, his workruns along the same lines as Bulgakov's. ... Read more

Excerpt: Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (Russian: , pronounced ; 29 January 1860 15 July 1904) was a Russian short-story writer, playwright and physician, considered to be the greatest short-story writer in the history of world literature. His career as a dramatist produced four classics and his best short stories are held in high esteem by writers and critics. Chekhov practised as a doctor throughout most of his literary career: "Medicine is my lawful wife", he once said, "and literature is my mistress." Chekhov renounced the theatre after the disastrous reception of The Seagull in 1896; but the play was revived to acclaim in 1898 by Constantin Stanislavski's Moscow...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=2447 ... Excerpt: Ivan Vasilievich Changes Profession (Russian: ) is a Soviet comedy film produced by Mosfilm in 1973. In the United States the film has sometimes been sold under the title Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future. This film is based on a play by Mikhail Bulgakov and was one of the most attended movies in the Soviet Union in 1973 with more than 60 million tickets sold. The movie begins in 1973 Moscow, where Engineer Shurik (Aleksandr Demyanenko) is working on a time machine in his apartment. By accident, he sends Ivan Vasilevich Bunsha (Yuri Yakovlev), superintendent of his apartment building, and George Miloslavsky (Leonid Kuravlev), a small-time burglar, back into the time of Ivan IV. The pair is forced to disguise themselves, with Bunsha dressing up as Ivan IV and Miloslavsky as a knyaz of the same name (who everybody thought was executed by the tsar). At the same time, the real Ivan IV (also played by Yuri Yakovlev) is sent by the same machine into Shurik's apartment, he has to deal with modern-day life while Shurik tries to fix the machine so that everyone can be brought back to their proper place in time. As the police (tipped off by a neighbor who was burgled by Miloslavsky) close in on Shurik, who is frantically trying to repair the machine, the cover of Bunsha and Miloslavsky is blown and they have to fight off the palace guards, who find out that Bunsha is not the real Ivan IV. The movie ends with Bunsha, Miloslavsky, and Ivan IV all transported back to their proper places, although the entire thing is revealed to be a dream by Shurik. But was it really a dream?.. Chapters: The Master and Margarita, Heart of a Dog, the Fatal Eggs, the White Guard, Flight. Source: Wikipedia. Free updates online. Not illustrated. Excerpt: The Master and Margarita (Russian: ) is a novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, woven around the premise of a visit by the Devil to the fervently atheistic Soviet Union. Many critics consider the book to be one of the greatest novels of the 20th century, as well as one of the foremost Soviet satires, directed against a suffocatingly bureaucratic social order. Bulgakov started writing the novel in 1928. He burnt the first manuscript of the novel in 1930, seeing no future as a writer in the Soviet Union. The work was restarted in 1931 and in 1935 Bulgakov attended the Spring Festival at Spaso House, a party said to have inspired the ball of the novel. The second draft was completed in 1936 by which point all the major plot lines of the final version were in place. The third draft was finished in 1937. Bulgakov continued to polish the work with the aid of his wife, but was forced to stop work on the fourth version four weeks before his death in 1940. The fourth and final version was published soon after his death. A censored version (12% of the text removed and still more changed) of the book was first published in Moscow magazine (no. 11, 1966 and no. 1, 1967). The text of all the omitted and changed parts, with indications of the places of modification, was published on a samizdat basis. In 1967 the publisher Posev (Frankfurt) printed a version produced with the aid of these inserts. In Russia, the first complete version, prepared by Anna Saakyants, was published by Khudozhestvennaya Literatura in 1973, based on the version of the beginning of 1940 proofread by the publisher. This version remained the canonical edi...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=333987 ... Read more
