5-0 out of 5 stars Bonta delivers
Vanna Bonta's Flight is a very good example of seriously though out science fiction...in fact it is considered to be the beginning of Quantum Fiction.

Quantum physics shows us that the observer influences reality. Einstein called the quantum world 'spooky', but embraced it nontheless. What if our thoughts actually steer reality? Bonta gives us a wonderful, human, story based on just this. But it is also a book that does some interesting, perhaps world changing observations by itself of our present culture. It is about the observer after all.

Aira Flight comes out of the imagination of Mendel Orion, a successful science fiction author. When the very pretty, and very smart Aira shows up as a real human in his life, he is transformed.

What is more real, the observed or the observer? I am a big fan of Robert Heinlein, who Bonta has been compared to. Although Heinlein's work is considered 'hard science fiction', the comparison is valid as quantum reality has gained serious respect in the science community.

The other thing to note here is that, like her character Aira Flight, Bonta is a very pretty, and smart, human. She is an expert on poetry, a successful voice over artist (with clients like Disney) and is married to a rocket scientist! If you look at the author photo, it is almost as if you are looking at Aira herself.

Bonta has written a very important chapter in science fiction history withher ground-breaking book Flight.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fiction/Fantasy
Mendel J. Orion, writer of science fiction is a dreamer and award winning author, albeit he is missing something; love. He wants to have that special someone there to love him, not that silly Sandra Wilford that kept chasing him around like a lost pup. Mendel wants the woman of his dreams, which also happens to be the main character in the book he is writing at the present time.

Things begin happening, coincidences that seem much too surreal to be normal. The thunder storms after the "experiment" on Aira and Onx, the runaway dog in the hotel that could have possibly let a trickle of smoke rise from its nostril, or maybe the woman that is in his hotel bathroom suffering from amnesia; she looks unremarkably like the sketch of his main character Aira. And with the resemblance, he names her after the character in his book, and as for the strange dog he also names it Onx after Aira's sensor-mate in the story.

He is not crazy after all, or is he? Who is in whose world? Has Mendel been drinking too much and lost all sense of what is going on...or is this Aira something, or better yet someone that was not manifested in the lone drunken writers mind? A twist and travel through space and time may or may not be what it seems!

Vanna Bonta's novel Flight was my first Quantum Fiction review, the book was rather intriguing and very scientific as well as science fiction intermingled with fantasy. I found this to be an enjoyable read, the main character Mendel had such personality I felt his emotions much more than Aira's. Ms. Bonta has a knack for storytelling, and I do have to say that I am impressed! Some parts were a little confusing but, I will certainly further my knowledge into this world of Quantum Fiction. 4 Hearts

5-0 out of 5 stars Flight - A book to recharge the weary soul
I happened upon Flight by chance, or did I ? The universe plays all kinds of cosmic tricks. What I found in this story was a character who was very much like me. Weary from a long time of being misunderstood and ridiculed for thinking the impossible possible. With each page I became more and more drawn into this delicate balance between science and fiction.

Metaphors for life, and lessons that have taken mankind thousands of years to learn, spill out of this book and into the reader's mind like water to a thirsty imagination. My favorite point of all is love and how powerful it is as a force for creation and connection in the Universe.

This book is on the top of the list of novels I regularly recommend to my friends. Especially those struggling with their existence in the physical world.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interestingly different...
Vanna Bonta's Flight is definitely in a class - and genre - of its own. Falling under the category of what Bonta calls "quantum fiction", the story that unravels is both science fiction and fantasy. The discussion of particles, alternate realities and the like is so prominent in the text that it almost feels like an entertaining lesson in quantum physics.

The book follows two characters intertwined by what could be called fate or a collision of two worlds - the truth much remains to be seen. Our first main character, Mendle Orian, is a science-fiction writer whose real life has been swept up by his obsession with his profession.

His two worlds collide when a naked woman with amnesia winds up in his hotel room during a science fiction conference. He names her Aira, the same moniker of the heroine of his latest book. In a fashion that seems to have been adopted by the Disney hit Kyle XY, Aira does not have belly button and Mendle soon begins to notice a number of similarities between Aira, his character and Aira, the mystery guest.

As the story unfolds, Aira begins to remember her past and, oddly enough, it mirrors that of the earlier pages in Mendle's book. Even more intriguing is the superhuman powers and intelligence that Aira displays as time progresses. All of this begins to beg the question of whether Mendle created Aira or if Aira came first and just appeared due to Mendle's faith in her? Is Mendle now in Aira's dimension or is it vice versa? The imaginable possibilities are endless in this tale of cosmic love.

In the audiobook format, the third-person prose coupled with Bonta's soft, slow read and almost ethereal-like voice makes the journey through Flight even more thought-provoking and awe-inspiring. When reading the pages of the text, one notices that Bonta writes in a very sophisticated manner; which most readers will find quite refreshing. For readers who find themselves wanting more from the world of quantum fiction, Flight is a good place to start because, luckily, Bonta leaves room for a most-anticipated sequel to this fantastic novel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quantum Fiction and Alternate Realities
Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel, by Vanna Bonta, newly released in audio book format and read by the author, takes science fiction and fantasy to a different level, to a new world called quantum fiction. Flight blurs the lines between the mundane world and alternate reality, all the while delving into questions of existence and the power of thought.

In Flight, Bonta has created two incredibly unique main characters - Mendel and Aira. Mendle J. Orian is a science fiction writer who is pulled deeply into his books. Aira's character in Mendle's novel is a "light being", able to change forms at will, using thoughts rather than words to convey thoughts and influence others. As Mendle is writing Aira Flight's story, he starts to see Aira in his mind, starts sketching her, and begins to fall in love with his creation. Mendle starts to find surprising coincidences between what he is writing and what is happening in "real life". After Mendle has written that Aira and her companion Onx were sent from their dimension into another as corporeal beings, a stray vegetarian dog appears in the hotel and a woman with amnesia (who happens to look like his character sketch) appears in Mendle's hotel room bathroom during a Sci Fi convention. He names them Onx and Aira Flight after his characters, and because of their lack of a past - seeming to just appear in his hotel. Are they really the individuals he had written about, or are they from somewhere else?

Vanna Bonta is both a writer and a voice-over actor, and her skills are well utilized in this work. Bonta gives each character a unique tone, bringing an extra depth to all of them as she pulls us into her world. While using a third person narrative, Bonta is able to delve into the thoughts of each character, helping the listener or reader get invested in the world that she has created. The combination of the sound effects of typing and Bonta's voice keep each character completely unique, a challenge in many audiobooks. As the story continues, Bonta interweaves scientific terms and jargon, which makes the book feel all the more "real".

When Mendle and Aira's storylines merge, we begin to find unusual coincidences between life and the written word. These "coincidences" lead us to many questions: Is Aira really Mendle's character, or is she just an amnesiac who happens to have no bellybutton? Which came first, Aira or Mendel's writing? What is reality? Are there other dimensions? Are coincidences "just" coincidences? In quantum physics, thoughts affect answers, and you can become like Mendle, "surrounded by his own imagination come to life".

While the Flight audio book is over 16 hours long, don't let that deter you from listening to the novel. Vanna Bonta's voice is entrancing - quickly making an engrossing connection between the listener and the characters; her versatility as a voice actor brings a very realistic feel to the book. Flight is amazingly positive, life-affirming book, filled with beauty. The combination of the characters, storyline, and Bonta's voice make the audio book an intense and memorable experience. Flight will exert a magnetic pull on you, and you'll be stuck on it, waiting for the sequel to be released! ... Read more

"This description of Vanna can be no more than a sketch, a few strokes of pen. To try to convey the reality of her in these lines is like trying to replicate the reality of the complexity and beauty that exists in a painting by one of the old masters. The best way to get to know her is to read what she has written. The reader of this book is about to share her view of the world." - Joseph Turner, MA American Studies, Yale University ...
