Do not buy this book
I'd like to review the work itself but the awful quality of this printed version prevents it from being readable. This edition is a scanned OCR of the original work. Obviously there was no human participation in the production process because the type is riddled with format errors, Greek characters that are not recognized, footnotes out of place, page and chapter heading in the middle of sentences, etc. In all this book is virtually unusable. The table of contents is nothing but a mass of type that cannot be deciphered without looking at the scanned original. That General Books would market this product in this terrible condition is shameful and it speaks to their lack of respect for the original work itself. Absolutely terrible.

Johannnie Grammar no doubt is a great work on the topic, though a bit dated.I'm really happy to see it reprinted for a new generation of students and schoalrs of Johannine literature.However, due to its being reprinted via photocopying, the quality is less than satisfactory; some of the pages (e.g., a few of the indices) are even slightly flawed. ... First I had a literary belief not only in Zeus but also in Apollo, Athene, Demeter, and the rest of the Gods and Goddesses of Homer, tempered by a philosophic feeling that some of the Homeric and other myths about them, and about the less beautiful divinities, were not true, or were true only as allegories. In the next place I had a Roman or official belief in the destiny of the empire, and a recognition that its unity was best maintained by tolerating the worships of any number of national Gods and Goddesses; provided they did not tend to sedition and conspiracy, nor to such vices as were in contravention of the laws. Decent turn-of-the-century poetry
The style is almost exclusively iambic pentameter rhyme, with some interesting deviations from the more classic rhyme schemes. I found that some of the poems were well written and evocative, but others... not so much. The book was hit-and-miss for me, but I'm not much of a fan of this style of poetry. It seemed to read better out loud than in my head, but that too, is typical of the style (circa 1920s). As another point of interest, some of the material is topical with historical references here and there.
