Tiffany was later joined by Martin Bach (Quezal), Frederick Carder (Steuben), and still later by Victor Durand, Jr. (Durand), A. Douglas Nash (Nash), and Conrad Vahlsing and Paul Frank (Lustre Art). Tiffany originally called his glassware "Fabrile" starting in 1892. Supposedly, this derived from the old English, meaning "hand-made". "Fabrile" evolved into "Favrile", which he trademarked on November 13, 1894. He used this word to apply to all of his glass, enamel and pottery.

The exhibit runs through September 5, 1999. The Lamps of Tiffany features a selection of important works by the legendary American designer, Louis Comfort Tiffany who shaped the taste of American design during the twentieth century. The exhibition features forty-three lamps and two windows from one of the most significant private collections of Tiffany in existence, which includes more than 400 of the artist's creations. Louis chose to pursue his love of art instead of following in the family business, gaining acclaim for his oils and watercolors in the 1860s and 1870s. In the 1880s, however, he turned his attention to interior design as "a way to provide good art for American homes." His remarkable career spanned 57 years. Er war die Führungsgestalt des Jugendstils in den Vereinigten Staaten und einer der ersten Kunstindustrie-Designer. Tiffany wuchs in einer Welt des Luxus und des guten Geschmacks auf. Statt in das Familienunternehmen einzutreten, wollte er sich den bildenden Künsten widmen. So begann er seine Karriere als begabter Maler. Er schrieb sich 1865 an der National Academy of Design ein, wo er bereits 1867 in seiner ersten Ausstellung Gemälde seiner Europareise zeigte. Nach Studien in Paris und New York bereiste er Ägypten und Nordafrika, wo zahlreiche Gemälde orientalischem Charakters entstanden. Tiffany war ein ehrgeiziger Maler und nahm in frühen Jahren an nicht weniger als 27 Ausstellungen teil. Trotz dass seine Gemälde als Kunstwerke anerkannt wurden gab er die Malerei auf, da er erkennen musste, dass er nicht die breite Anerkennung finden konnte, die auch seinen gehobenen Lebensstil gesichert hätte. So gründete er 1879 mit drei Freunden eine auf Inneneinrichtung spezialisierte Firma, die immerhin 4 Jahre bestehen sollte. Die Firma lieferte nach neuesten Entwürfen gestaltete Tapeten, Textilien und Möbel, deren wichtigste Inspirationsquelle die Natur war.

Extractions: The Tiffany Window In 1895, the Morrisson family donated the Tiffany window which memorializes three generations of Morrissons - Robert Morrisson, his son James, and James' son Robert. Louis Tiffany designed the window utilizing his discovery called "Fabrile Glass."
